Electric Bus Woes [semi-satire]
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 24 November 2024 | John Semmens

The woke leaders of Austin, Texas' vision of a totally electric bus system for the city has run into a few snags. The 46 new buses they bought for $1 million each will have to sit idle for at least a year because the current charging system can't handle the load.

You see, diesel-powered buses can run nearly 24 hours on each tank of fuel. Electric buses need to be recharged every 10 hours. They also breakdown twice as often as the diesel buses. This problem is complicated by the bankruptcy of the Biden Administration-favored Silicon Valley-based Proterra, which is making warranties worthless and spare parts hard to come by.

Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm pointed out that "the goal of zero-emissions transit is still being met whether the buses run or not. So, we consider the transition to a fully electric system a qualified success."

In related news, Granholm resigned her position on the board of directors for Proterra and sold her stock in the company for a $1.6 million capital gain when she became the Secretary of Energy in 2021.

Given their recharge and breakdown times, they certainly will pollute less than the diesel buses. Bravo, liberals!

Yosemite national park has had electric buses for like 20 years. They use them in the summer and I have no idea how they charge them. They are quieter but they park them in the winter and switch back to diesel. It’s nice getting into a warm bus when there’s snow outside.

I guess you say that if it isn’t running, it doesn’t pollute & doesn’t get repaired, thereby cutting back on both running costs & emissions. Wonder if that’s how that genius Granholm looks at it?

So..How much of this article is satire or semi-satire? It surely reads more like bona fide news.

Most small city buses run without passengers so not running them will save money

Isn’t Proterra the bus that the doors break and since they’re out of business buses have to be scrapped because they can’t get new doors?

One more Jenny Grandstand failure

The Granholm quote is the satire.

Electric buses sure make sense in a state that has a history of blackouts and grid failures. Good thing the leftists in Austin didn’t buy electric fire trucks and ambulances

Blacksburg Va bought some. It sometimes gets too cold to run them.

This is pretty funny. A German town dealt with the carbon emissions crisis by getting rid of their diesel powered car ferry (that worked very well) by replacing it with a solar powered one (that doesn't work at all).

Now cars that can't cross at the ferry have to drive and additional 20 miles out of the way to get to the nearest bridge...

...the city father sold the diesel ferry for 17K Euros, and are now trying to buy it back.

That reminds me of a pet peev of mine but on a smaller basis... Cities round here In CA keep tearing out the middle suicide lane on our roads and add medians with landscaping and crap. So you have to drive an extra block or two to do a u turn to get to somewhere on the other side of the street. It adds up extra driving and congestion. Then the fools have to water it and maintain it adding extra costs. When we are in a drought they let it die and it just collects litter. Hate it!
