Four years ago, I changed all of my browsers to have a blank start/home page for similar reasons. I figured I could decide where to go after opening the browser.
My Microsoft Edge browser always opens to Free Republic.
It didn’t work.

You can hide their news entirely. Don’t recall how, but it wasn’t difficult. I just have favorites bar stuff showing on mine. I’d rather not use Edge, though, so only open it when something I’m trying to do doesn’t like my preferred browser.
Microsoft is very much anti Trump , will not use Edge.
I’ve worked hard to sanitize my start-up screen and web browsers (Edge and Chrome). It seems like I’ve had to do this more than once. Several Weather channels are Global Warming, Climate Change propagandists. I settled on WeatherNation on my computer because it just gives local weather forecasts unless you ask for more.
I loaded Edge and it was slow, klunky, and locked up all the time. Put in Chrome to get back to making it work.
I suggest switching to Brave rather than using browsers from fascists who have devoted themselves to brainwashing you. The way MS, Google and other outfits shove sewage down our throats at every opportunity is appalling.
Change your default start page to a site you like in your Settings area.

Try Opera, I’ve been using iterations for almost 20 years. Unfortunately you can’t rip out Edge by the roots but you can shut it off.
Edge is on Windows 10 and 11 by default, but I do not use it, ever. It’s Brave, Chromium and Palemoon. That’s it.

Wife’s laptops (W10-11) keep getting Ed-Gee (as I call it) re-installed and clogs things up.
Constant war to keep removing the damn thing.

I use edge. I hide all their news. They will be getting an update in December, where it’s going to be even faster.
I’ve been on Firefox since about 2007 and have it configured just as I want it.
I also have Brave and use Edge in rare situations because web page coders tend to not always test their code with Firefox.
Google Chrome is a no-go zone for me.
Change the start-up page to something your prefer. But that doesn’t work flawlessly, and subsequent tabs/windows for the same profile may revert to the default MSN nonsense. Maybe there’s a setting to deal with that.
Steps:
- Settings
- Start, home, and new tabs
- When Edge starts
- Open these pages (about:blank)
Side note: Edge is build upon Chromium, end tends to work better than Chrome for typical consumer requirements.
