MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) – Former Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Tina Peters was sentenced to up to nine years in prison Thursday for election violations.

Peters, a Gold Star Mom, was convicted of multiple election violations in securing disk drive images that showed files that were required to be kept for a certain time period were deleted during the Dominion "trusted build". Peters was part of Mike Lindell's cyberimposium in North Dakota a couple years back. Exculpatory evidence was withheld during her trial. This morning, Peters was sentenced to 9 years in prison and several thousand dollars in fines.

Shortly after the sentence, Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold released a statement: “Tina Peters has been sentenced to nine years of incarceration for her dangerous attempts to break into her own election equipment to prove Trump’s ‘Big Lie.’ We will not allow anyone to threaten our elections.
