BobL: "Sucks to have Leftists who INSIST on seeing if Russia is bluffing.
I do know one thing, however, when faced with the same type of threat to Western Europe during the Cold War, we sure as hell weren’t bluffing."

Atomic Annie test, 1953, 15 kt yield:

During most of the Cold War, the threat in Europe was a Soviet invasion of NATO countries at a time when Russians were considered vastly superior in numbers and at least equal in motivation, training & technology.
We expected such a war to quickly escalate to tactical nukes and whatever else we could throw at each other (NBC).
We hoped only to delay Soviets long enough for our own reinforcements to arrive from CONUS.

Since the Cold War, doctrines have changed and we are today much less willing to consider even smaller tactical nukes than was contemplated 50 years ago.

What's clear today is that Russians are suffering from mass insanity, brought on by their lunatic leader, Vlad the Invader, and that the situation requires extremely strong and capable Western leadership at a time when we have literal zombies in charge in Washington, DC.

Sadly, that can only begin to change after the November elections, if we are very lucky.

I could easily see the first missile/ drone that hits Moscow..

Putin level Kiev with conventional weapons. And silumtaneously an “unloaded” missile/ drone into the Pentagon/ Nato HQ parking lots.

And then a few shots across the bow of Tai Pei. and possibly trigger Iran to directly “do something”.

for years the “west” has essentially anounced the intention of going into Russia and “taking out” Putin. What does Putin have to lose here?

Exactly! The mainstream media in the West and our so-called leaders are living in a fantasy world. They’re utterly disconnected from the harsh realities on the ground. They keep feeding the public this nonsense that Russia is on the brink of collapse in Ukraine, while in reality, Ukraine is crumbling under the weight of this war. People need to wake up!

Russia is not going to back down. They have no reason to. The territories they’ve taken aren’t going to be handed back like some chess piece in a game. And why would they? The Russian people are rallying behind Putin because they see this as a fight against Western aggression. And let’s be clear, the only reason Putin might get pushed out is if he’s seen as too soft against NATO and the West. That’s right, too soft. Imagine that!

If anyone thinks this is just about Ukraine, they’re delusional. This is about a global power struggle, and Russia isn’t going to be bullied into submission. The West keeps poking the bear, acting like there are no consequences. But what happens when that bear lashes out? People need to understand we are hurtling towards a catastrophic conflict. We’re talking about the very real possibility of nuclear war over a situation that never should have reached this point.

Our leaders need to pull their heads out of the sand and realize that we’re playing with fire. The stakes couldn’t be higher, and continuing down this reckless path is a surefire way to get us all annihilated. It's time for some hard truths and serious reflection before it’s too late.

Neocons are grifting morons with a murder-suicide fetish.

Admitting that there is any chance at all that US intervention will result in nuclear war would get people asking, "Why take that risk over Ukraine?" And the result would likely be that US aid would cease. So naturally, the morons singing "Ukraine Uber Alles" and the grifters looting the US treasury insist there is ZERO chance of nukes EVER being used, no matter how idiotic that claim is.

Holy Czarina Catherine, Kabar.

I didn’t know that Ukraine became a member of NATO.

Was this before Russia liberated Crimea and the breakaway Republics from the Nazis in 2014, or was this between 2014 and when the CIA made it look like Russia entered Ukraine in 2020?

--- "You guys are still peddling the line about Ukraine joining NATO. It wasn't happening. I was never going to happen. Yet here we are."

Some people assert things without reference to sources. Here are some sources:

"...Ukrainian membership would significantly strengthen NATO. Ukraine boasts one of Europe's largest, most capable, and innovative armies. For almost two and a half years, Ukrainian troops have defied expectations and successfully resisted the Russian military, which is widely regarded as the world's second most powerful army. As a member of the NATO alliance, Ukraine would bolster Europe's security, contributing its unique combat experience and knowledge of the most advanced battlefield technologies."

Five reasons why Ukraine should be invited to join NATO Atlantic Council, 11 July 2024

"NATO leaders agreed to a package that will ultimately make Ukraine a member of the alliance, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at a news conference today."

Leaders Agree to Expedite Ukraine's NATO Membership U.S. Department of Defense, 11 July 2023.

"The United States and its NATO allies have agreed that Ukraine's path to membership in the organization is 'irreversible,' according to a communique released by the 32-member bloc during this week's summit in Washington. 'It's not a question of if, but when,' NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters Wednesday."

NATO calls Ukraine's path to membership 'irreversible'

Voice of America, 10 July 2024.

Now to make it a discussion and possible debate, one can answer "you guys" with clarity and cite opposite sources. Looking forward to said sources, and perhaps hot links, in order to answer "you guys."

Here we are....

A useless neocon boomer with a death wish who doesn’t want to go into the dark alone and is willing to take everyone with him. I’m pretty sure that you have no children with that attitude. At your age it is likely that you will still be a globohomo idiot when you die.

Ukraine is not an existential threat to Russia. No other country (other than China) appears to have any desire to engage or invade Russia. The world knows that.

Maybe not in a conventional sense. But Russian is a country with a history where the elites sit uncomfortably above a restless population that can be ignited by a revolutionary spark when the system is stressed. Witness 1905 (Russo-Japanese War) and 1917 (WW1).

Seems that the Russians (Soviets, actually) believed our red lines, because as you correctly state, Europe would have been for the taking if we were bluffing (and we weren’t bluffing).

Many western long range missiles also need western satellite data and guidance for flight control and targeting. Our network of satellites would have to guide them.

BobL, you say Ukraine “was about to be a part of” NATO. When, exactly, does Russia get the right to invade another country? When they join NATO? When they ask to join NATO? When it is possible that they will ask to join NATO?

Or, is it your point that it doesn’t matter whether Russia has a right to invade other countries, but simply that Russia is a powerful country and out of fear for what Russia could do to us, we should obey them when they threaten us?

If we weren’t so weak, if we were, say, ten times as powerful as Russia, would you think differently?

Well, Putin is again trying to scare everybody with nukes.

Those nukes are old, decrepit Soviet production remnants.

I wonder, how many are still working?!

“... because as you correctly state, Europe would have been for the taking if we were bl...”

Are you high?

Russians don’t even believe that rubbish.

The Poles and most COMBLOC armies would have turned on them. That’s where the nukes would have come in if anything, nuking their WARSAW Pac allies.

Russia’s ‘great’ Army can’t even conquer Ukraine. The whole Federation is crumbling. Soon to be picked apart by rivals.

It’s astonishing how some folks on this forum are treating this war the same way our leaders in Washington and the mainstream media do—like a spectator sport. They’re cheering on every move without realizing the stakes involved. This is more than just a geopolitical conflict; it’s a dangerous game with nuclear-armed players, and the consequences of escalation could be catastrophic.

We’ve seen this blind cheerleading before. The media and political class are so caught up in their narrative that they’re not stopping to think about what these escalations actually mean. Just look at the recent attack on the Voronezh-M radar system, deep in Russian territory. This isn’t some random military target. It’s a critical part of Russia’s early-warning system, designed to detect potential missile attacks, including ICBMs. Disabling or compromising these radars isn’t just a bold move—it’s a reckless gamble that could spark a global crisis.

Remember 1983? A Soviet radar system falsely detected a U.S. missile launch. The world was saved only because one man, Lieutenant Colonel Stanislav Petrov, decided not to trust the system and held off on escalating. One man’s gut feeling prevented a nuclear war. Now imagine if that radar had been taken out—who would be there to prevent disaster?

And yet, here we are, with some people cheering from the sidelines, completely unaware of the Pandora’s box we’re opening. This isn’t a game where we root for one side and expect everything to work out fine. This is real life, with real risks and real people who could pay the ultimate price. It’s time to wake up and realize that blind support without understanding the consequences could lead us into a nightmare scenario.

We need to demand more from our leaders and the media. They should be pushing for de-escalation and diplomatic solutions, not fanning the flames of war. Because if we don’t get a grip on reality, we might find ourselves in a situation that no one can cheer their way out of.

Seems like a clear red line.

Would the US tolerate Mexico firing missiles into Dallas TX?
