CNN's Zeleny On Whether Biden Should Break Pledge And Pardon Hunter: 'Why Not?'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 09/06/2024 11:45:15 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

On CNN This Morning, CNN Chief National Affairs Correspondent Jeff Zeleny uttered a very cynical "why not?" on the question of whether Joe Biden should pardon Hunter.

The show had played the clip of Biden flatly telling ABC's David Muir that he would not pardon his son.

But hey! That was then, when Biden was running for president. And this is now, with Biden out of the race. So, yeah, "why not?"

Biden breaking his promise would give a new meaning to a favorite line of his: "On my word as a Biden."

Zeleny used the tried-and-true MSM dodge of putting his opinion in the mouths of others, framing his answer as a some-would-say spin. Zeleny built his case for the pardon by noting that the power to do so is "one prerogative a president has. I guess some would say why not use it?"

I think we’ll see a pardon. For several reasons.

The only reason Hunter pled guilty was to get this over quickly so he could be pardoned in time for Joe’s departure

What has Biden got to lose? His reelection, his reputation, and his mind are all long gone.

They’re avoiding exposure of multiple family crimes and scams.

The only reason he pleaded guilty is because his father and other family members are connected to his finances. It’s called laundering.

because maybe just once Biden should keep his word, or teach his son a lesson he should have taught him as a child? to be honest.

Democrats don’t hand out government benefits because the recipient is “deserving”. Don’t be naive.

There has always been some kind of prima facie moral justification to issue a pardon - factual innocence, sketcy trial, later discovered evidence...none of which is true for Hunter.

I believe this is the first time a pardon will be justified solely on the basis of familial connection - “so and so” deserves to be forgiven for his crimes for no other reason than we are related.
