Liberals claim to be in favor of democracy–or, at least, Our Democracy™️–but if someone actually runs against them, they take it as a personal offense. Consider this tweet by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, whom I take as a good exemplar of contemporary liberalism:

People everywhere need to understand how disgusting and abnormal it is for special interests to dump nearly $15 million to unseat a member of Congress in a primary.
This is corruption. It is a core threat to American democracy. It also fuels Trump.

There is nothing shocking about $15 million being spent on a Congressional race. In the 2022 cycle, a number of House races drew more than $40 million in total spending. And Ocasio-Cortez herself knows how to spend money: she spent $18.9 million on her own 2020 House race.
So what is going on here? Maybe AOC is offended because the money is being spent on a Democratic primary–someone had the temerity not only to challenge a sitting Democrat House member, but to actually raise money in support of that challenge. But AOC certainly isn’t opposed to primary challenges; she gained her Congressional seat by winning a primary as an insurgent challenger against longtime Democratic Representative Joe Crowley.

The Democrats now use “democracy” as every Leftist political party and faction has always used it - to them “democracy” means “us”, meaning them, and when they say something, anything, is a “threat to democracy” what they actually mean is it is a threat to them. And they always count on the ignorant masses to not understand that.

That’s what AOC wants for the USA.
People Democracy means:
Get the “right” person in power by any means.
Once the “right” person gets into position, the only way they leave is in the casket.
At this point in America, anyone that identifies as a democrat is as dumb as a box of rocks...
The other day AOC said there was too much anti-semitism in her party.

A democracy in the political meaning of the word; the original meaning defining a specific political system, means a country governed by unlimited majority rule.
A democracy is a form of government in which the majority has the right to vote on anything, and to pass any laws they see fit, the sole standard of legality being a majority vote, that is a counting of numbers.
Democracy is incompatible with a constitution, because the principle there is that the sole standard of right and wrong in politics is a counting of noses, a majority rule.
The best example of that system are the original city states of Greece, where if you remember the majority had the right to vote a death sentence for a man if they disapproved of his ideas.
And Socrates was the best example, the most famous one, of what is wrong with a system of democracy.
Socrates was condemned to death because a majority of the citizens found that his ideas were subversive to the youth of Athens, {Greece} and he refused to escape though he had the chance. He declared that his fellow citizens were wrong in their decision, but they had the right to vote away his life, which is a ghastly example of the sanction of the victim, and a perfect example of the nature of a democracy, as a political system of government.
Doesn’t mean much since we are a Republic, not a Democracy.
