A shining example of why I often don’t worry about government tyranny. RealID was part of the 9-11 panic law wave. And now will finally go into effect almost 24 years later... maybe. Might get pushed off again. Don’t hold your breath.
You need, “Real ID” because the ID the government gave is just not good enough. You want real ID? Ya gotta pay more!

I had to get one when I moved to a new state, for someone who hasn’t flown since before all this security stuff started, it is bizarre to watch the parallel ID paths of the last quarter century.
The core Americans are required to meet a futuristic sci-fi version of personal identification and security procedures and body searches while literally 10s of millions of unknown foreign people come in and move about freely without so much as a passport or any ID at all, yet they live, work, rent housing, move about freely, among us.
I present my Indiana driver’s license smart ID to vote. It gets put in the reader, which looks up my information, and I am on my way. What a concept.
I’ll just use my military ID like I have been for years. No point in me getting a real ID driver’s license. Now if Alaska decided to issue an enhanced driver’s license I might be tempted to get one.
They just use the Passport they still have from their country of origin.
You really ought to qualify your statement. Two of my children are black. The sub-class that I believe you are referring to know airplanes. They fly on Spirit Airlines.
All 50 States, the District, and the Territories all issue Real ID compliant driver licenses.
