The Cargo Ship that struck and destroyed The Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore, Maryland appears to have lost power twice before impact with the bridge.
The ship’s lights then blink back on right before it hits the bridge support.

A similar incident happened in Brunswick Georgia in 1972. Whole families perished when their cars flew off the end of a collapse bridge hit by a ship.............
When I think of Baltimore, I think of film maker and Baltimore-native John Waters. His beloved town seems to have experienced some serious crime increases since the days of author E.E. Poe.
Gotcha....Waiting on caffeine to hit my brain. Must be some crazy currents in that area. It seems the ship’s momentum would have been sufficient to carry it through. I wonder if there are two channels, to accommodate two-way traffic Seems they were too close to one side....
It looks steered to my wife and me. It was headed BY the bridge support and then turned sharply right and directly into the bridge.

Exactly. It sure looks like an accident, a mechanical or electrical problem with the lights going out and black smoke belching before the collision. But my suspicions are aroused every time the FBI/DHS immediately declare “not a terror attack” because there is no way to quickly determine that unless FBI/DHS are behind all terror attacks so they disclaim this one “not us!”. It amazes me that they do not understand this - it always takes some time for experts to determine the actual cause.
My dad was a licensed Port Pilot and operated sea going tugboats for the US Army since the Korean War until his retirement in 1962. He always said he was a “blue grass pilot”, and when he could smell the blue grass, it was time to back her down!
I hope that was satire. No Bob they do not have brakes on boat. If the time they might be able to do a full power astern and reverse the direction of the screws, but you don’t slow down a boat that size quickly.
It can and does happen. Back up power may not be enough instantly. No tugs that I saw on the move.
