If i had to guess, it’s hard to stay profitable when half your product walks out the door without a financial transaction.

Several issues: Theft, theft, theft, they expanded rapidly, they are the small town walmart and canary in the lower and middle class coal mine.

When Dollar Stores start losing business, you know the economy’s in trouble....

Those things have been popping up all over the place over the last few years. The problem is they are building them in towns with very few residents. There is a reason there was no grocery store in that little crossroad town. There’s not enough money/income to make them profitable.

Not many Family Dollar stores around here, but the Dollar Trees have been spreading like Kudzu.

I think it’s mistake to combine Family Dollar and Dollar Tree stores. I stopped at a new combination store recently and about 75%-80% of the offerings were little different from Dollar General, and only a small portion of items selling for $1.25.

I like going to a 100% Dollar Tree store occasionally, but these combo stores aren’t that different from Dollar General, of which there are many near me.

I observed a number of times that the store had one (1) employee. So, what problem could arise from a lack of staff. Oh, say maybe shrinkage?

I suspect a lot of those stores will be in urban areas aka “food deserts”

Here in Tampa, on an 8 mile stretch of Nebraska Avenue there are 8 Family Dollar and Dollar Tree stores. Some of them are not exactly clean as there are homeless people sleep in their doorway. One of my friends on his model railroad layout has a Family Dollar with a few bums sleeping on the sidewalk.

I wonder if they shouldn't have spend money to sponsor Joe Gibbs Racing teams. Depending on the neighborhood, Family Dollar can be nice stores, but the ghetto FD DT stores are bad.

The problem is much more than inflation problems. The junk in those stores isn’t worth jack, cheap or not.
