Cops cite ‘freedom of speech’
An Israeli physics professor’s lecture at the University of Nevada Las Vegas was interrupted by anti-Israel protesters late last month, but campus cops refused to remove them — citing the First Amendment.
This led Professor Asaf Peer, who was discussing the topic of black holes, to ask “What about my freedom of speech?”
According to The Jerusalem Post, Peer was but a mere quarter-hour into his lecture when the shouting protesters (pictured) “burst into the room […] with banners and flags.”
Protesters’ placards commemorated Islamic University of Gaza physicist Sufyan Tayeh (killed in a December Israeli airstrike) and accused Peer of getting his physics degree in “illegally occupied” territory via the 1948 Nakba.
In an edited video of the incident (below), a protester accuses Peer of “spreading violent rhetoric” on his Facebook account, and tells his students they should “all be ashamed of themselves.”

What would happen if the protesters were supporters of Israel and the speaker was a pro-Palestinian?..............
If they’re run by UNLV then the cops were ordered to stand down by the university - not surprisingly.
The black holes made a ground level appearance in the speaker’s program. Pally lives matter. A physicist’s talk. Really annoying little terror water carriers.
The students were protesting with slogans like “Juden Raus!”.
Would if they were Trump supporters?
Disgusting!
Narcissists. The only thing that matters is the issue they want to shout about. Sure, they have freedom of speech but bursting into a different speech on physics to grandstand an unrelated political agenda is pure narcissism.
Except that this wasn’t unrelated. They picked him because of his national origin, ethnicity and religion. So it’s bigotry and narcissism.
It’s not like he had any choice about where he was born. And he doesn’t have any control over the Israeli government. So what did they expect to accomplish other than parade their narcissistic hate. And their ignorance. And their cavalier attitude towards the consequences of terrorism and political obstinacy.
They would be shot...................
Reasonable time, place and manner restrictions are ok. Police just refused to enforce.
Had they wanted to protest outside or even in the public lobby, that would be protected. Disagreeing with the professor about the topic when registered for the lecture, reasonable. Barging in and shouting during the lecture is not reasonable and they should have been removed and if they refused to leave be arrested.
I had a severely disturbed (crazy violent) older sister. One day she attacked me in the living room. I yelled for dad to help me. He looked over his paper and yelled at me, “Don’t fight with your sister!” I understand now that he could deal with me because I was rational and sane. He knew he couldn’t deal with her because anything he did, she’d go all out balls-to-the-walls crazy, and he didn’t want to even attempt to deal with that. The same dynamic is in play here.
I love a happy ending.
If you like antisemitism, vote Democrat.
I have always found it illuminating to engage in that exercise, put the shoe on the other foot, and see how it sounds to normal people.
With racism, it is a particularly revealing exercise.
The professor was lecturing about physics, not politics!
There was no point in shutting him down—unless the university officials are dumb-dumb!
Might makes right. We need to learn that lesson.
UNLV needs to feel the pain. Pull funding, block contributions, file actions against them, whatever else that can cause them pain.
