MAYORKAS IMPEACHED
Powerline ^ | 13 Feb 2024 | John Hinderaker

This time, Republicans made sure they had the votes–just barely, as the resolution impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas passed the House by a single vote, 214-213, with three Republicans crossing over to vote against the resolution. Mayorkas thus becomes the first sitting cabinet-level official to be impeached in U.S. history.

Democratic Party press outlets naturally denounced the impeachment as a political stunt, and so on. But for the most part, they have conspicuously failed to inform their readers what Mayorkas was impeached for. In my opinion, the articles of impeachment state a powerful case, itemizing a number of illegal actions on Mayorkas’s part. The resolution is embedded below; you can judge for yourself.

Of course, Mayorkas is in one sense a scapegoat: he is the instrument of, not the source of, Joe Biden’s open border policies. It is Biden who really should be in the dock, for violations of federal law as well as his constitutional duty to “take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.” Rather than faithfully executing our immigration laws, Biden has actively undermined and flouted them. So, yes–Joe Biden deserves to be impeached. But for now, we will settle for Mayorkas.

The impeachment is mostly symbolic, of course, as the Senate will do nothing. But that is all right. The House needs to stand up for American sovereignty and territorial integrity by every means possible, and impeachment is, an any event, inherently a political act.

A good take on the impeachment. Yes, it is largely symbolic. But force Democrat Senators to vote to keep him in office, in this election year, where the border is the number one issue.

Ok, now what?

How are we going to get 2/3 of Senate to vote to remove him?

“he is the instrument of, not the source of, Joe Biden’s open border policies”

Just following orders excuse.

A government employee cannot be fired for following an unlawful order. So this excuse doesn’t wash.

This is a tree falling in the woods to most voters.

It won't get to trial. I think he resigns. They won't want all the evidence coming out. More people awake. I think Biden resigns soon too. He is not even competent to appoint someone. 8Bs7

This is good, and significant. If nothing else, history can now record that at least some House Republicans were concerned about Biden’s insane border policy.

Bravo. Now refuse to pass any spending bills until Biden shuts the border and enforces its closure until such time that we can: 1) Deal with the invasion, and deport as needed, and 2) responsibly accept lawful immigration.

Senator Cruz, this is a moment to lead in the Senate. We may not have all the votes, but we should stand united against an invasion, and against a socialist regime bent on destroying America.

I would like to think we are trying to force action on the border. I think the truth is on the Republican’s side, if they would stop sitting on their hands.

Maybe we can get Biden’s head to explode. That seems a real possibility. Poking him should help.

I would like to see some explanation of how the illegals‘ caravans work. Where do they get their food and payment for the march? We know that Biden is holding the door open for them, but there seems much to expose, if America only had a free press.

I won’t be surprised if the dems nominate Mayorkas to be Kamala’s VP...

Majorkas family came here from Cuba as illegal aliens! Majorkas was eventually rewarded with naturalization and now he controls the Department of Homeland Security and immigration policy.

The filthy slime ball illegal alien should NEVER have been rewarded with citizenship, NEVER!

Making Democrats waste their time is never a waste of time. It shortens the relative length of their term in power by that many days.

Agreed.

Way too much stuff to hide/cover up before the election.

Huh? We AREN’T gonna get a conviction out of the senate.

It’s a show trial, of course. So make it a good one! Spend a few weeks beating that sorry son of a b!tch like a pinata. Make him hurt. Cut a bunch of subpoenas. Call a bunch of witnesses and make ‘em squirm for the cameras. Make it a spectacle! A real production!

Take your time, Speaker Johnson. Every day they spend whacking the crap out of Mayorkas is one less day to spend our money!

Also, keeps them occupied. I know they multitask at evil, 24x7, but it never hurts to throw them off.

He's on the wrong side of history and now it'll be a fact for all time.

More failure theatre from the Republicans.

Johnson, like McCarthy and Ryan before him, realized that he could use totally symbolic votes to make naive conservatives think he was doing something.

Instead of passing hard-edged budget bills, this is what they are wasting their time on. The Democrats control the Senate so the entire thing will be over in less than 1 day. Nothing will have been accomplished. No regular person will even hear about it or care about it.

Useless theater. But exactly what the RINOs love.
