POMONA, Calif. - Nine WWII-era rifles used for ceremonies like the 21-gun salute were swiped from Pomona’s American Legion Post in the latest of a barrage of break-ins that have left the historic building in shambles and destroyed irreplaceable war memorabilia.
On December 30, security cameras captured at least one thief inside the storied building, jumping over a bar.
"We had an ammunition locker that contained 10 M1 Garands that we used for ceremonial purposes - those are all gone," said Javier Hinostroza, Commander of the American Legion Post on Holt Avenue.
The rifles were loaded with blanks, but if an adapter is taken off, live ammunition could be put inside, creating a safety concern for the community.

One out of four people in the so-called inland empire are parolees.
10 Garands...
.
PING !
More illegals please. /s
Should be easy to spot the thieves. Just look for people with bandaged thumbs...
Let’s hope they do not take off the adapters.........
But, if any of these end up in the hands of gang bangers, will they know to take off the blank adapters before trying to fire them using real ammo?

Will they know what real ammo to use?
LOL!
I call their ten garands and raise them four AR’s.
Ah, yes. The old M1 Thumb.
Pew!...Pew!... Pew!...Pew!... Pew!...Pew!... Pew!...Pew!...Ping.
For drill and ceremonies, collecting, and target shooting, but not much good at all for ordinary criminal purposes, because each is too long and too heavy and the ammo costs too much. Eventually the vermin who stole those wonderful, irreplaceable historic relics for something like $0.10 on the dollar. In other words a complete waste of a valuable historic resource that was used by the vets for wonderful things like Memorial Day ceremonies. It’s too bad that the vermin who did this can’t actually experience what happens to somebody standing in front of a loaded, live M1 rifle.
Pomona is about 90% Mexican.
I’ve never owned an M1.
My father carried one during WWII. He was an armorer, serviced Quad 50’s and Bofors.
An M1 is very very heavy. But very very lethal. Not Just 30-06, but an awesome weapon.
They are used when Veterans are buried in a Non Military Cemetery and use Blanks for the Salute
$1 says they will try to load and fire these with out the CLIP. And they probably did not recognize what they were and left them behind.
YES, I said and used CLIP correctly. One of the rare instances where one can say CLIP and be correct..
Google is their friend
Just something about writing;
“En Bloc CLIPS”.

I lived in Pomona 1959-78. When we moved there there were still a lot of lemon groves especially up Garey Ave and between arrow and bonita. Pomona was a middle class city with two small Mexican barrios which had been there a long time. In Ganesha Hills on the side of I-10 heading west to Kellogg Hill there were some high enders in the hills with great houses.
fter the Watts rito the federal government decided to relocate a few thousand blacks mostly elgare and some parolees and probationers. The cities around Pomona refused to cooperate. Pomona put them in three areas around the three high schools.
A few years later reports were of knife fights in middle and high school. The crime rate went up in town. White flight started. I worked as an assistant to the parole agent who had Pomona frequent visits to the PD and all over the city. It was a scary place.
In 77, we went to our favorite restaurant on west Holt, Orlandos. There was an armed security guard in the parking lot. He said Detroit was the murder capitol of the US and Pomona was the armed robbery capitol, having the most per capita.
We moved to Claremont and then Sacramento. One day I flew south for a meeting. It ended and i went to Dicks French Dip on second, still there and still very good. Then I headed to the Ontario airport. There were hookers at Garey and Holt at 2 PM on Friday a work day. I still have feeling for the place, but I never want to live there.
