One of the seldom discussed aspects of the ongoing revolution in contemporary higher education is the problem institutions are having filling courses that are designed to impart the DEI message to students.
In the mediasphere, the conversation on DEI in higher ed is mostly about, e.g., the fear that conservative “politicization” will drive enrollments down. Students, it is claimed, just won’t stand for conservative reforms of the type instituted by Florida’s Ron DeSantis. This, of course, overlooks all the work that higher-education institutions have been doing for decades to politicize curricula and drive enrollments downward via their own politicized mechanisms.
On occasion, there has been modest press reflection on the fact of under-enrollment in “Studies” and other highly politicized courses. Almost a decade ago, the Chicago Tribune ran a story noting that African-American Studies programs were facing defunding in Illinois state schools due to low enrollments. But colleges have little incentive in the post-George Floyd Revolution days to linger over questions of enrollment or even to report on the situation.
It is not easy to get data on this and other aspects of the consequences of DEI expansion on campuses, because institutions are interested in hiding inconvenient details. Yet those of us on college faculties are aware, for example, of how faculty recruitment has been altered in recent years to skew decisionmaking away from scholarly productivity and promise and toward candidates’ identities and DEI politics.
Recently, John Sailer of the National Association of Scholars managed to get access to piles of documents from one school, Ohio State University, that describe precisely what is being done to revolutionize faculty hiring.

Simple solution - universities will start making DEI part of core curricula.
I called it first.
Already happening. Daughter had to attend anti-white and Jew classes: miss more than one, have to repeat.
Made her more conservative,’it was so foul.
That was at a university that requires a tuition payment? I would consider suing them for abuse. If Trump university can be sued endlessly by leftists trying to destroy him, then you can certainly sue these universities trying to turn your daughter racist.
When I was in college I tried not to let school interfere with my education.
My son (24) told me that none of the leftist bull crap was taught in his math or computer science courses, but was in his liberal arts “core” courses. That’s the same it was for me back when I got a BS in CS from the same university, though the leftist indoctrination was probably different and more intense for my son. When I was in college the leftist indoctrination was mainly pushing atheism and the poor need more government help. Today we’d probably count it a cultural victory for the right if that’s all the left “taught” in college.
Back in the 60s, I took French 5 days a week at 8 AM, two semesters, with an aptly name little old lady: Mini Harms. Miss a class, she would would deduct half a grade. An A with a skipped class became an A- and so on. I do remember pas de parlez to this day.
Any institution enabling any of this crap should be demolished.
This generation will be unemployable. Nobody will hire from that swamp and infect their place of business. They are the Covid DEI graduates the untouchables.
No one wants to study to a $1M / yr university president?
“Already happening.”
In 1997 the freshmen at UNC Chapel Hill were required to attend training in wokism, though it wasn’t called that back then.
Easy enough to cure. Just have the totalitarian rulers make the courses mandatory.
This is a required class for all majors.
She’s a business and engineering major.
Rice University, which is an excellent school otherwise. Not a lot of woke, just this and stupid anti-white classes during “O Week”.
No anti-Jewish/anti-Israel stuff, in general (except this class annd O week) and it’s not tolerated on campus, but I think that’s mainly because the non-Asian students are overwhelmingly Jewish.
When I was in a state university in the 80’s, there was a huge uproar from the liberal arts staff whenever fewer courses were proposed or required for the science majors, pre-med, pre-vet, etc. professional tracks. It was all about protecting the jobs of those MA’s and PhD’s teaching the various studies and dead languages and dead writers, while pushing socialism and atheism. It has only become worse, it seems.
That was my first thought as well.
The focus on worthless propaganda like climate change and DEI is why kids don’t learn how to read, write and think on their own.
We had this at my university. A female wokester gave a course in something like cross-dressing Indians and 3 students signed up. The Department rightly cancelled the class and made her teach a real history course. She left in a huff at the end of the year.
I must say, I didn’t care for Ben Sasse as a Senator, but he’s been a big home run for my Alma Mater.
