Spectator (UK): Average age of Ukrainian army in now 43

No one wants to talk about Ukraine any more - The Spectator

Lionel Shriver writes, what she calls a “seasonal downer” and probably his most depressed view, since the start of the conflict.

“This endgame is more likely than ever. I’m not happy about that. In fact, it makes me sick. But the average age of the Ukrainian army is now 43 – a statistic that makes me even sicker.”

“They’re running out of young men, not because the young men won’t serve but because they’re dead. Ukrainian women are being sent to the front lines. Russia had nearly four times the population of Ukraine before the war; given the reduced population in Kyiv-controlled areas, the countries are now mismatched in manpower by a factor of five.”

“With his legacy and political future on the line, Putin is clearly all-in for the long haul. The easily manipulated Russian public have not rebelled. Putin’s inner sanctum hasn’t staged a coup. Russian GDP has increased since last year. The rouble started rising against the dollar. Western sanctions have failed.”

Putin is an a-hole who illegally invaded a neighbor.

And it appears he’ll win.

Time to stop throwing good money after bad.

“Hundreds of thousands wounded and dead in Ukraine as war grinds on, intelligence suggests

“U.K. Ministry of Defence estimates around 320,000 Russian casualties”

https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/russia-ukraine-1.7053035

I suspect Ukrainian losses are about 70% of Russian losses.

You are correct on all three points.

And this is where we need someone like Trump. Yes, he’s full of bluster. But he knows how to negotiate, and successfully close the deal. Unfortunately, we don’t have Trump.

We have Potato Head Joe and his shadowy puppet-masters. What they do tomorrow is anyone’s guess.

It was completely legal. And he moved in to stop nazi A-holes and their ethnic cleansing. That and stopping NATO from charging right up to his border.
The Donbass and Crimea broke away after Ukraine fell to a coup. They have as much right to do that as the western Ukes in Kiev did. When you overthrow a government by force, everyone else possesses that same right. Everyone in old Ukraine is not required to join the new nazi dominated junta. So they asked for assistance from their closest potential ally. All very legal under UN rules. See also “Kosovo” and “Libya”.

Actually more or at least AS legal than us invading Syria and breaking off a chunk for our pet separatists.

Like it or not. War is how national borders change. Calling it illegal is a useless objection. You are correct.

Not to mention if Biden is for them, Inam against them.

The average age is 43?
That makes no sense to me. It smells like BS

In 2021 Ukraine had about 4 million men between 20 and 40.
(Their total population then was about 40 million)
4 million guys is about 3 times the size of the Russian army. Why do they need ANYONE over 40?

And what happened to all those guys under 40?
Have they really had a million or so killed?
Are 2 million younger guys classed 4F by their draft board?

No, we're the a-holes that fomented an illegal coup in Ukraine, trained. We funded and armed neo-Nazis and Ukrainian nationalists and encouraged them to exterminate the ethnic Russian population. We were running biolabs with deadly pathogens in them in Ukraine. We teased NATO membership for it. We encouraged Ukraine to renege on peace deals like the Minsk Accords.

If Russia or China had done anything like that in Mexico, we, justifiably, would have invaded.

And everything we've done in Ukraine is so our elite could work with Ukrainian oligarchs to get rich with hopes of overthrowing Putin and doing the same thing in Russia. Those are the scumbags YOU are defending.

Insane, Russian hating a-holes like yourself are the danger to national security.

You want to fund the war in Ukraine, send you own damn money. You want to fight the Russians, get your sorry ass over to Ukraine.

The you're stupid. Russia has an 8-1 edge in ammo fired. It doesn't take much to figure out the side at the kind of disadvantage is suffering a similar loss ratio in causalities.

Zeepers are dangerously delusional and danger to national security and safety of all citizens.

The Ukrain Army has been trying for six months to storm heavily defended trenches for nothing gained. I think the Ukrainian casualties far out number those of the Russians.

Putin has died half a dozen times since this war began. He's had stomach, thyroid and blood cancer.

Putin has more lives than a cat.

But they have nice uniforms. And so did the little kids and old men of the German Nazi machine in it’s end days. I wonder if Zippy will be giving out medals to young boys a couple days before the end?

Seriously, it’s so sad to look at the faces of these men, knowing they have but a few days to live. Wondering if they have enough training, enough equipment or if their officers and NCO’s are experienced and competent. I have a feeling the most valuable piece of equipment they have is any large piece of white cloth and a stick of some sort.

40% of the Ukraine population left in the first couple months of the war. Makes total sense when people vote with their feet.

I agree.

Rules are made by people who win. If a nation “breaks the rules” but wins in the end, then there is no chance that the world will hold any sort of grudge. It will be over. Illegal? What? That? No one will care.

You don't seem to grasp most of the world views us the country that creates arbitrary rules and refuses to apply rules to ourselves that we apply to other nations.

We've become what the old Soviet Union was. We meddle in other nations, destabilize them and set off civils wars all so our elite and military industrial complex and make $$$.

And, that is why the liberal world order is collapsing.
