The most conservative Democrats now are a lot more liberal/progressive than the most conservative Republicans. The possible exceptions are living in states where the Republicans are much more conservative than in other states, so the Dems still won’t ally with them.
Winner take all elections mean third parties lose out to the two main parties. The exception is where there are strong regional parties, but no part of the US is as different as Welsh and Scots are from the English, or as Quebec is from English Canada.

It’s strange that a Republican leader would dis his own party like that. Doubly strange since McCarthy fit that pasty old White guy stereotype better than a lot of other Republicans.
But after hearing about Casey DeSantis’s gaffe it seems like the big difference is that Republicans dimwittedly chatter about doing things that they haven’t thought our or planned and never get around to doing and get in trouble for it, while Dems plan, and do, and leave no traces (or survivors) behind.
If nothing else we can see what other dumb things McCarthy may have said.

McCarthy is no doubt a pillow biter.
In order for the Representatives to "look like America" they just need to be Americans. But McCarthy wants to suck up to the left so he adopts their viewpoint.
Why didn't he mention that Republicans were the party of all Americans since the 1800s? Or that the Republican party had lead the fight against the racism of the Democratic party?
McCarthy is a jerk, its as simple as that.
He's sucking up to the liberal Democrats.
