Life has always had challenges, tragedies, crimes, all sorts of horrors. There have been brawlers, thieves and murderers since the dawn of time, so the individual crimes of modern times are perhaps not without precedent.
But there are differences. There are changes in the modern era – in how such crimes are received – that are without precedent in the past.
In the 1920s, Soviet Communists murdered millions of their fellow Russians. Americans and other westerners didn’t know this, largely because the press intentionally suppressed such news. Many liberal Americans, even non-communists, supported friendly relations with the Soviet Union, but then, they didn’t know the horrors that Leninist and Stalinist bureaucracies were committing.
In the 1930s, Germany’s National Socialists murdered tens of thousands of their fellow Germans, then as they conquered their neighboring countries and started loading up boxcars with innocent civilians, they slowly began to quietly murder millions in their concentration camps. Many westerners thought that Nazi dictatorship was a respectable approach at first, and supported the Nazis. They didn’t know about the concentration camps. Many westerners didn’t know about the Nazis’ ghastly “final solution” until the war was ending.
In the 1940s, Mao Zedong’s Chinese Communists drove out the monarchists and republicans from China, and launched a People’s Republic which we now know was never republican and never served the people. In his decades-long dictatorship, he engineered the murders or starvation deaths of countless tens of millions of fellow Chinese. Many Americans weren’t horrified, because they didn’t know, and perhaps still don’t know. Even today, American education suppresses the unthinkable homicides of the Maoist era; it still doesn’t teach the truth of the slave labor camps that are still operated by Beijing all over China.
Americans buy Chinese products, work for Chinese companies, vote for politicians who are owned lock, stock and barrel by the politburo in Beijing, and perhaps they truly don’t know any better, because the mainstream media doesn’t report it. If you don’t know that your congressman, your senator, your presidential candidate has had his mansions and cars paid for by Chinese slavemasters for decades, you can’t be expected to hold it against them, can you?
But there are some surprises in the news, worth noting.
On October 7, the Hamas terrorists who broke through the wall to attack innocent Israeli civilians did something new. They didn’t keep it secret.
The demons of Hamas actually filmed themselves committing these horrific crimes. Beating, beheading, raping and maiming their victims – in one particularly notorious case, driving around with one of their rape victims on display on their vehicle, so that crowds could tell she was abused and beaten, but could not tell if she was still alive (we now know the poor girl was indeed killed on that drive).
Crowds of their fellow Gaza Strip residents – the ones who like to call themselves “palestinians” and claim to be civilians – could be seen cheering this behavior. When they chant “From the river to the sea, palestine shall be free,” they leave no doubt as to what they mean by their little rhyme. Not only the leaders, but the crowds too are calling for the mass murder of the current residents of Israel. You see it in their eyes as they chant, you see it on their lips as they scream.
Since October 7, such crowds have popped up across the West, as well. In Europe, in Britain, even in the United States and Canada, they have marched by the thousands, even tens of thousands, to show their support for this violence against Israel and Israelis. They cannot claim a generic respect for communism or socialism or self-determination, not today, not this time. Not while both the mainstream press and their social media feeds are full of live video showing rape victims being paraded as triumphs. Not while the videos of shootings, beatings, maimings, and murders are everywhere around us.
Still we see thousands of westerners cheer on the bringers of death and destruction to innocent foreigners. We even see them remain supportive of the anti-semitic “pro-palestinian cause” when its death and destruction is visited upon similar innocents right here – an old Jewish man in a big city shopping district, a young Jewish girl attending a midwestern college, the rabbi of a quiet suburban congregation.
On Friday, Hamas grabbed two of their own, two fellow residents of the Gaza Strip, and accused them of spying. They dragged them on the ground, beat them, shot them, and hung them on a power line in Tulkarm, then dumped the bodies in a dumpster, to the favorable chants of an appreciative crowd. We are told that Hamas is a minority there, that the vast majority of the people of Gaza are unfortunate civilians, just as opposed to Hamas as we are. But then we watch such events on video, and we ask how that can be possible.
And despite all this, Western support of Hamas continues uninterrupted.
Is it a stretch to declare that this is unprecedented? Fifty years ago, did American leftists cheer and march in support of known demons? No. They cheered and marched for people whose stories the press had sanitized.
But Hamas’ evil deeds are not sanitized, and they receive generous applause anyway, from massive crowds. Why?
Could it be that many in our society have completely lost their moral compass? That they have been so conditioned to accept unnatural violence and death that it no longer horrifies them?
For fifty years, influences in the West have campaigned to desensitize us to the evils of abuse and murder.
We have watched as governments, schools, pop culture, even many alleged churches, have campaigned to destigmatize suicide and even championed “assisted suicide,” as well as supporting or even encouraging (through needle exchange programs and such) the slow suicide of recreational drug abuse. We have watched as the once Judeo-Christian West has worked to both legalize and destigmatize the killing of babies in the womb, even to talk their own mothers into choosing abortion over raising their own children or giving them up for adoption.
Might that make the difference?
A century ago, had the West known that Stalin was killing the kulaks by the millions, that Hitler was killing the Jews and Mao was killing farmers in similar numbers, it is inconceivable that civilian rallies would arise in support of the perpetrators.
But today? Even as we watch a lynching in Gaza play out in real time on our cellphones and televisions, we see Americans join the terrorists in cheering the bloodletting.
The question is “Why?“
If our society is to survive, we must seek out the answer.

Good points, John.
Thank you!
Three words ... “Grand .. Theft .. Auto”.
Even the Nazis kept the Holocaust quiet in Germany, lest there be an outcry from German citizens. In today’s America, the press could do live broadcasts from Auschwitz, showing women and children being stripped and herded in to gas chambers, only interrupted by commercials about deodorant and potato chips.
John, any society which fights for and celebrates the killing of babies is no better than the socialists, the nazies, the communists and the palestinians who weave death into every corner of their culture.
May we have the courage and the will to call out their atrocities and use any means necessary to purge them from this great land.
Any means necessary.
Many Jews wanted a less Christian West. And after much secularization through media, entertainment, advertising, education, and law, they got their wish.
Today the West is spiritually pagan, and groups like Hamas fit right in.
What you said. And may I add, a post-Christian America is no America at all

Not one mention of “muslim” or “islam.”
