Astronomers have detected one of the most powerful cosmic rays ever observed – and it was beamed at Earth from a mysterious part of deep space.
The cosmic phenomenon carried the energy of 240 quintillion electron volts – that’s 240 billion billion (followed by 18 zeros).
For comparison, a typical lightning bolt is about 300 million volts.
The cosmic ray – named Amaterasu, after the sun goddess in Japanese mythology – was detected by a telescope system in Utah in May 2021 by scientists who described it as ‘unprecedented’ in modern times.

700 square kilometers converts to 434.9598 square miles, and amazingly this occurred where they happen to have this Telescope Array Project. This is a representation of that:
It's either a message from the Lord, or the odds are astronomical, pun intended, for it to arrive within the range of this device.

Some of the information of my post was provided from the Wikipedia: Telescope Array Project entry.
Loved the book, hated the movie.
I pray no one ever attempts bringing Dan Simmons’ work to the silver screen… an AI might do it, but something like Hyperion Cantos would have to be several hundred hours long (60 minutes for auty speed readers)
The speed of light squared is a great energy multiplier!
Agree. It certainly isn't Amerasu, the sun goddess (divine energy), sending a message from the void.
Would a magnetic field “pipe” for the entire distance traveled, be necessary to maintain the energy strength?
‘You need huge amounts of energy, really high magnetic fields to confine the particle while it gets accelerated.’
Perhaps because it is Utah it has to do with Skinwalker Ranch. Just saying
Got any ideas as to what it was?

“They laughed at me in 1897 when I told them about the cosmic ray. Fifty years ago they attempted to discredit my discovery of the rotating magnetic field and my system of power transmission by alternating currents. They called me crazy when I predicted the radio and when I sent the first impulse around the world they said it couldn’t be done.”

Most likely an emission from a deep space pulsar.
That quote isn’t fom HHGTTG. It is from “So Long And Thanks For All The Fish”. And I was dissapointed by the latest movie as well. I’ll take the BBC video series any day.
It could also be that there are a significant number of these striking earth, but we only have limited measurement sites.
Agree.
What's the message?
Not only that, but they carefully aimed it at Utah!
“…240 quintillion electron volts – that’s 240 billion billion (followed by 18 zeros)…a typical lightning bolt is about 300 million volts.”
As we say in engineering, that’s just a “rough order of magnitude estimate.”
If a huge cosmic ray hits the state of Utah and the equipment to detect it is not in place how do we know to even care?
get the NSA to decipher its message
1. “This is only test. When the real beam is sent, you can dive under your desks for cover for all the good it will do ya.”
2. “Prepare to be absorbed.”
3. “We will soon retaliated with a real beam for all the inane Biden speeches you’ve transmitted!”
4. “Allah Akbar! Death to Amerika”
5. “We paint any car for just $29.95!”
6. “It’s a cookbook!”
7. “Snap! Krackle! Pop! Rice Krispies!”
8. “Reach Out and Touch Someone!”
9. “Someone Else Up There Loves You!” (Southwest Airlines)

The odds of getting a single birdshot pellet in your belly button are also low.
But that doesn't mean there weren't scores of other pellets that hit your body...
And/or Blind Frog Ranch...
When ultra-high-energy cosmic rays hit Earth's atmosphere, they initiate a cascade of secondary particles and electromagnetic radiation in what is known as an extensive air shower. Now the story makes sense (there's no way they detected the cosmic rays themselves at those energy levels). Some charged particles in the air shower travel faster than the speed of light, producing a type of electromagnetic radiation that can be detected by specialised instruments.
One such instrument is the Telescope Array observatory in Utah, US, which found the Amaterasu particle.
But highlighting the scientists' ignorance:
'But in the case of the Oh-My-God particle and this new particle, you trace its trajectory to its source and there's nothing high energy enough to have produced it.They still believe the universe is finite. Such arrogance. smh
