I was amazed to find Japan has more fatal bear attacks than does the United States. Japan has few bears and fewer people, but the people are almost completely unarmed.

The attacks started ramping up as the bear populations were more and more protected.

From 2007 to present, inclusive, 37 people killed by bears in Japan vs 33 people killed by bears in the United States.

Nothing some common sense bear laws, registration, red flag, assault bear bans, etc. wouldn’t solve.
Oh, wait! None of these solve anything. Nevermind.

Five people have been killed in attacks by bears so far in fiscal 2023

Got to pump those numbers up or else they won't get as much funding next year.

It’s not just that Japanese people are unarmed. They also tend to be clueless when it comes to interacting with wildlife.

Go to a U.S. or Canadian national park and watch the visitors who go out and try to take photos next to an elk or Buffalo in the wild. A disproportionate number of those nitwits are Asian tourists.

Are tree hugging Japs more likely to go out of their way to try to pet a bear?

And they don’t even have the right to arm bears out there.

It’s because they keep trying to karate chop the bears.

They have 2 bear types in japan- a brown bear, and a black bear- the black bear is related to the asiatic bear which if I remeber correctly is very aggressive and foul tempered. Both types are dangerous, but i beleive the Japanese black bear goes out of its way to be aggresive

Every time I have seen (black) bear in the wild, it was running away from me like crazy.
But in National Parks and similar venues, they seem not to care!
Obviously, they lost the fear of men.
From there, there is just a little step up to fatal attacks.

Japanese should only go into bear country in groups of 300 fully armed with bayonets for a Banzai bear charge.

Sword control. Yes, they have that as well as gun control in Japan. Give them back their swords and the problem will go away. Plus it’ll make for some great Tik Tok vids...

Didn’t know that there were any bears in Japan...
Thought that Godzilla (Godzira) would have eaten all of them by now...
