GOP Betrayal: House Speaker Johnson Now Says ‘Insufficient Evidence’ To Impeach Biden

Johnson previously claimed in July documented evidence "proves" Biden family is "hopelessly corrupt."

"We found checks to Joe Biden and evidence of a massive money laundering scheme and now the new guy you are told is way better doesn’t want to impeach. Such progress," says Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) reportedly claimed Friday that “there is insufficient evidence” to launch impeachment proceedings against Joe Biden.

Johnson reportedly cited the lack of sufficient evidence “at present to begin formal impeachment proceedings” during a closed-door meeting with House GOP moderates, according to the Washington Post.

Johnson’s newfound sentiment was reiterated by Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.), who claimed, “We’ll just go where the evidence goes and we’re not there yet.”

“Most of us are saying, look, we can’t even get a single Democratic vote on this right now. I think the voters will reject what they are seeing when it comes to Biden [policies] — but high crimes and misdemeanors? I don’t think we’ve seen that or enough data to really make a good case and I feel like [Johnson] really agreed with us on that,” Bacon added.

This represents a major about-face from Johnson’s posture in July, when he claimed that evidence “proves” the Biden family is “hopelessly corrupt.”

“The evidence now shows — it proves — that the First Family is hopelessly corrupt. They’ve been involved in extortion, bribery schemes and tax fraud and incredible abuses of power,” Johnson said.

“We have now $17 million and counting of these amounts of money that have been uncovered that were put into these ghost companies that the Biden family put together, many of which when Joe Biden was vice president to hide the sources of this funding. And it involves China and Ukraine, adversaries around the world. It’s a very serious and alarming problem.”

Political commentator Tim Poole speculated that Johnson’s 180-degree pivot was part of a larger political calculus aimed at defeating Biden in the 2024 election.

“Maybe it’s just a 4D chess move. They know Biden is the weakest candidate here…I think they know what they’re doing here,” Poole said Friday.

Others like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) blamed Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) for spearheading the removal of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) as speaker, who she claimed was committed to impeaching Biden.

“Not long ago we had a Speaker that believed in impeachment so much that he launched an inquiry without a floor vote, but you were told he was bad,” Greene wrote Saturday on X.

“After 8 R’s and all D’s ousted him, we found checks to Joe Biden and evidence of a massive money laundering scheme and now the new guy you are told is way better doesn’t want to impeach. Such progress,” she added.

The latest evidence of Biden’s corruption was revealed earlier this month by House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.), who laid out how Joe Biden received a $40,000 check in “laundered China money” through his family.

Comer last week also issued subpoenas for Hunter, James and former Hunter associate Rob Walker, signaling the Oversight Committee is ready for Biden crime family members to give taped interviews regarding payments that passed through various channels in possible efforts to obfuscate the fact they came from foreign sources.

It’s a GOPe circlefest in a well-lubricated sleeping bag.

If law-fare is good enough for Donald Trump, it’s good enough for Joe Biden.

Impeachment takes too much time and too much energy (which the professional politicians in the GOP caucus are not recognized or respected for), and it is too much of a distraction from the top priority — far above all else — of GOP professional politicians (that being their re-election) to pursue, notwithstanding that the head of the crime family (and his syncophants) controlling the executive branch of the federal government constitute a persistent and direct threat to our constitutional republic.

Impeachment is more comparable to a criminal trial in which the standard is proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

Does not impeaching Biden, make it easier for Trump to run against him? A Biden impeachment could force him out of the picture and bring in another candidate to go against Trump. Keep investigating the Biden crime family subpoenas et al. during the campaign.

The point is we won’t even get a majority in the House.

The Democrats had 235-200 seat advantage elected 2018. That’s 34 seats. The GOP has a margin of 5. With that huge advantage, the Trump impeachment vote had 7 who did not vote to impeach Trump. 3 Dems and 4 not voting or voted Present.

You know damn well we would have more than 3 GOP seats vote against such an impeachment and probably more than 4 trying the no vote or vote present maneuver.

We would not even get close to House majority voting for impeachment, and that would be even with stronger evidence. How humiliating would that be. The asterisk would be on the GOP.

Is it betrayal or is it reality? Only qualified legal opinions should be listened to.

MGT was apparently privy to what was being said by Johnson

Yup. I just now read past the poorly sourced information and saw that.

And I see that MTG also believes that McCarthy was committed to impeachment. As if McCarthy would do something that the Deep State didn't want him to do. As if MTG doesn't need to explain away her support for McCarthy.

I find the following Tweet, interesting.

I believe Obama/Axlerod want us to impeach Biden as fast as possible, so that they can dump Biden and put in Big Mike.

They seem to be having difficulty right now doing that.

Timing is everything. It's not clear to me that moving forward starting the formal impeachment at this moment is the best thing.

The subpoenas are a positive step forward.

I remain vigilant about what Johnson is doing, but undecided.

Agree. I think MTG was badly embarrassed by McCarthy getting ousted after she had backed him - she might be seeing this as an opportunity to save face.

I agree.

So far I’ve only seen this comment coming out of some obscure Chinese dude on Twitter. I, for one, feel like we should give Johnson enough time to unveil what’s going on internally as opposed to speculating our asses off from nebulous sources. I personally don’t like the idea that he’s issuing a CR at this moment but I also know he hasn’t had a ton of time to get his ducks in a row

Wise post.

Impeaching Biden is a waste of time.

Putting all the evidence out there in an impeachment and then putting every member of Congress on record either for or against such foreign bribery and border corruption is NOT a waste of time.

I think what he is implying, is that he wants to convince the people of the corruption of Joe Biden, otherwise it becomes a political thing only. When that is accomplished, then they will impeach him, knowing that the Senate will not convict. Then when the 2024 elections come around, a better informed public may award them both Houses of Congress, as well as, the Presidency.

I agree it’s an outrage. When they stole that election I was all for any means of getting Biden out of office and Trump back in.

First it was proving the election was stolen - that failed.
Next it was impeaching Biden - that didn’t happen.

Then 3 years went by…

Now I’m focused on Trump winning in 2024 beyond the margin of fraud. Whatever serves that purpose, that’s what I want.

If that means impeaching Biden, great, impeach him. If that means not impeaching him, great, don’t impeach him.

I used to think it was important to lock Hillary Clinton up - now she’s irrelevant - I never think about her and I don’t really care what happens to her any more.

If Trump can win in 2024, I imagine after a while that’s how I’ll feel about the Biden crime family - a forgotten thing if the past.

I know - equal justice is of utmost importance - but the best way to restore equal justice is to get President Trump back in the White House..

There are two alternate political narratives for 2024:

1) Trump putting America First vs. Biden running America into the ground. Peace and prosperity under Trump vs. Great Depression II and WWIII under Biden.

2) Trump being accused of all sorts of crimes vs. Biden being accused of all sorts of crimes. Yes, Biden is guilty and Trump is innocent - but will enough voters be able to figure that out, or will they just see them as two politicians facing similar accusations?

If we go the way of impeachment, I think we are choosing narrative #2, and I like Trump’s chances better with narrative #1. Presidents actually do better in their re-elections as a result of being impeached.

One thing I am sick of people on Twitter complaining about is that Republicans aren’t getting the border sealed. You know they can’t do that by controlling only the House, and no the Republicans shouldn’t have campaigned on it.
