When I was looking desperately for a number of years two decades ago for voices that intelligently and courageously spoke up against the militarist excesses of Bush 2, I was astonished and delighted by what I found on The American Right - Congressman Ron Paul and Patrick Joseph Buchanan.
IMHO there is nothing short on film from Buchannan to match the magnificence and power of Paul's "what if" speech.
But the longer culture wars speech on youtube is for me an almost sacred text which I watch once or twice a year to restore my faith in truth.
My own suffering at the hands of Socialist Left government has been real and unique. A long and complex story.
In 2019 I fled to Indonesia in a personal war, a personal rejection of modern western tyranny against its own people and on one particular day (August 8) I found that paraphrasing Buchanan from Houston helped me say things from the heart for which I could not find better words myself:
"This war is a cultural war ....... (it) is about more than who gets what. It is about who we are. It is about what we believe, and what we stand for as human beings. It is critical to the kinds of nations we shall be. It is a war for the soul of the world. And in this struggle, the values of the Republic of Indonesia are on my side. But the Maribyrnong and Victorian Australian Labor Party governments, in my country of birth, Australia, are on the other side."
There has not been a new post on Pat's official site since November 21 last year. Wikipedia does not report his death or explain his silence.
Does anyone know how the old guy is doing in this retirement?
I love him.
Geoff Fox
He certainly was the most prescient writer from the 90’s - sadly, he has already written the future of our country
This note was on his official webpage. Pat must have retired.

Update regarding mail to Pat Buchanan:
I have moved out of the DC area, thus I’m unable to stop by Pat’s home as frequently as I did in the past!
If you want to mail something to Pat, send it to my personal address above. Make sure you include a blank, unsealed, postage paid envelope. I will use that envelope to forward your mail on to Pat Buchanan.

Pat Buchanan, a Vindicated Extremist, Packs It In
(not a glowing review of his life but :
… The Buchanan legacy is one of a deeply reactionary point of view that quite recently looked to be a thing of the past but now seems prophetic. He may have statues built to him if the right-wing authoritarians he admires gain power in America or elsewhere.

Thomas Sowell is 93. As far as I’m concerned, flip a coin as to who the greatest living writer currently is.
....At the Cold War's end, the United States was given one of the great opportunities of history: to embrace Russia, largest nation on earth, as partner, friend, ally. Our mutual interests meshed almost perfectly. There was no ideological, territorial, historic or economic quarrel between us, once communist ideology was interred.
We blew it.
We moved NATO onto Russia's front porch, ignored her valid interests and concerns, and, with our "indispensable-nation" arrogance, treated her as a defeated power, as France treated Weimar Germany after Versailles.
Who restarted the Cold War? Bush and the braying hegemonists he brought with him to power. Great empires and tiny minds go ill together.
People who get their panties in a wad over Crimea and Ukraine should ponder that for a bit.
In 2000, Pat clearly defined the onset of the culture wars that now entangle the Nation as it slides into the dust bin of history...
These culture war were, and continue to be, the brain child of the international communist movement...
Even in the 1960’s, Nikita K. correctly predicted the demise of the United States through, in large part, the self-inflicted wounds that have plagued every “democracy” in recorded history...
This was the principal reason the Founding Fathers created a Constitutional Republic: To protect the Nation from the evils and ultimate tyranny of a democracy...
Well, it is too late, now, to worry about it...
The Nation is in the grips of a dark and permanent tyranny, the likes of which have never been recorded in history...
The United States of America has become the Disunited States of America...
There is only one solution to be found within either the Declaration or the Constitution...
I put Erwin Lutzer up with the greatest.
Erwin W. Lutzer (born October 3, 1941) is a Canadian-born evangelical Christian speaker, radio broadcaster, and author. He is the former senior pastor of The Moody Church in Chicago, Illinois (1980–2016).
Yeah. “Reactionary”. He mis-spelled “Righteous Indignation”.
Repeatedly throw shit on decent, peaceable people. Eventually, hell yes they will react, they will probably try to kick your ass.
I wanted to vote for Buchanan in 1992, but he dropped out of the race before the California June primary. The only names on the Republican ballot were Pat Robertson (who had already dropped out) and George Bush.
He’s not living
Buchanan recently had very vicious op-ed against Trump, so this guy will not be read anymore.
Pat is a great mind. People should have listened to him. He had the border issue and the future results pegged many years ago.
I remember when Pat was railing that Japan was going to exceed the U.S. in GDP and economic power. He was wrong then and wrong on other things as well.
When you find out, let the rest of us know... Thanks ahead of time.
I also wonder if Patrick is dead or alive, the website says the site is now a threat, and I was not able to confirm his status. I went to Encyclopedia Britannica, which I thought was a fair treatment of him, and found a possibly interesting book of his, “Suicide of a Superpower: Will America Survive to 2025? (2011)”
Love PJB, it cracked me up when they called him an anti-semite, a war monger, CRAZY. Anyone know why we went into Iraq the first time? Who cared IF Saddaam was going into Kuwait? It was all over Oil, and I didn’t care who sold it. The problem in the ME was never Iraq, it was the Iranians being turned from a modern society, into Islamists. There have been a few times when THE People tried to overthrow the Ayatollah (thanks France for letting him go back to Iran) wasn’t he in jail? When the Shah was sick, the Muslims made their move.
There are better writers, but he is in the ranks of the greats of our time.
