In a week and a day, I'll no longer be living in NYC.

Finally, after so long, I'm moving down south, to South Carolina. Got a job, signed a lease on an apartment, and I'm gonna get my first car down there. Things are looking up, and I hope that down the line, I'm making the right decision.

Deer season is 6 months long so you can get lots of meat, pretty cheap.

I agree Memphis is a trial, but one can live in MIS close by and commute. I lived in Jackson before we moved closer to a closer village in TN

I don’t blame you for leaving New York City. I wouldn’t be caught dead in that commie hell!

I left in 2004. The hardest part was not being able to get around on foot. There weren’t even any sidewalks where I moved to.

Oh, and no decent Chinese or Italian food anywhere. But where you’re going, the barbecue will make up for it to some extent.

I know that people who love Manhattan have a different mind set. But I looked at what Taylor Swift spent 50 million dollars for
https://nypost.com/2018/02/05/taylor-swift-spends-millions-on-yet-another-tribeca-property/

and compared it to what her boyfriend just spent $ 6 million for.

Yes, you don’t have the fine dining and the Broadway shows...but dang...fresh air, grass, and privacy and a lot of space

Thanks for adding way to eat Grits. I was being simple to get him going. I miss them because I don’t think of them being alone as I am and living in WV. I’m wishing I could be burred back in my birth state, but I got a double tombstone when my beloved passed, so WV is where he is and I will be before long.

We visited Canada a few times back when my husband had a band and we went all over the USA and Eastern Canada. Loved the atmosphere, but wasn’t fond of the Mosquitos.

!!!!!HOORAY!!!!!!

What wonderful news. I am so genuinely happy for you!

I was a lifelong NYer, from Rockland County to Saratoga and the Hudson Valley is my heart, but I’ve been in SW Virginia for 2 years now and I don’t miss it one bit.

A little culture shock and you better learn how to make bagels (I’ll send you the recipe if you want it), but there is no looking back at that wretched mess of dirty politics and insanity all around.

You will be better off no matter what.

Congratulations on your wonderful blessing :) <3

Welcome to S.C. Most on this thread are right to advise you to slow down.
It will be easy since there are far fewer rude pests and sociopaths living here that revel in your irritation like in NYC.
Opinion: grits are not to be sweetened. Save that for your cereal silly rabbit.
Grits require a large pat of real butter and salt. Have eggs over easy and crispy bacon on the side.
Don’t cut people off in traffic….leave tailgating in NYC.
Don’t ever attempt to tell anyone how things were done back home.
When you meet people let them talk.
And if someone says “Bless your heart”, that is not what it means.

Probably be best to lay low for a week and a day ... they are out there and will get you if they can.

Good move. Just realize the dangerous demographic of NYC is also in SC.

I just moved from Pennsylvania to Texas last week but the wife and I have been planning this for more than three years; researching the area, planning the trip, getting the house sold - it was a major undertaking for us.

******************************************************
Similiar. Nevada to Kansas move. Spent two years researching which state, which town, which part of the town. Then there’s how to move, what to move and dump the rest. Sell the house, drive (4 days), get apartment at destination, search and buy another house, furniture. The last year was done in the middle of the china flu panic - that added to the entertainment.
That was our retirement move. Gonna die here.

I know that people who love Manhattan have a different mind set.

There's no place like New York. Literally. When they leave the city, they become a fish out of water.

I'm not a New Yorker so I don't have that problem. But I've heard folks from that city that they can't handle living anywhere else.

I always laugh at these “moved to the Deep South” posts.

Growing up in Mobile,AL...

We considered anything north of Birmingham, to be Yankee land
