Psychosis and Suicide: We Need To Talk About Weed
PatriotandLiberty ^ | 10/23 | John Mac Ghilionn

Posted on 10/17/2023 1:24:18 AM PDT by spirited irish

Marijuana, cannabis, pot, weed—call it what you will, the psychoactive drug is incredibly popular. This is especially true in the United States, where weed is big business. A staggering 16 percent of Americans—roughly 54 million—admit to smoking weed. In 2021, 13 percent said they smoked the drug.

According to a recent Brightfield Group report, the annual revenue of the U.S. weed industry is estimated to reach $31.8 billion by the end of the year. By 2028, the industry is expected to be worth $50.7 billion. In New York City alone, legal marijuana appears set to become a $1.2 billion-a-year industry

In recent times, the push to legalize recreational weed across the country has gained momentum—even though Republicans are desperately pushing back. As I hope to show in this piece, very little, if anything, good comes from the use of weed. Contrary to popular belief, it’s a dangerous drug with very few (again, if any) positives attached.

Remember, pot good, tobacco bad. You wonder why there are so many nut jobs out there now.

I remember in the sixties my friends who used pot daily just became stupid. Their vocabulary was reduced to two phrases; wow and far out. A couple of my peers went onto full blown psychosis and schizophrenia. They were admitted to the mental hospital and released as Thorazine zombies. I can’t imagine using it now with the normal cognitive decline of aging.

I get so tired of these “killer weed” fanatics. Coming-of-age in the ‘60s in Cambridge, MA., I could probably have counted the people I knew who DIDN’T smoke rope on one hand. Sure, there were a few crazies among them, but they were already crazy before they started smoking it. Self-medicating with the weed, as it were. These weed-paranoiacs don’t get that. Correlation is not causation.

I’m not advocating for legalization. The underlying social problem with hemp is that it encourages useful people to become slackers. Or maybe it just reveals the inner slacker who was always there. We’ve got enough welfare leeches as it is.

THC levels for weed in the 1960s/1970s was fairly low. You had to smoke an awful lot to get stupid.

Around 1990s....higher level of THC weed started to come out. Today...three and four times the old THC level. A lot more paranoid schizophrenia being triggered today.

The stuff we used as teens is nothing to the strains today. A buddy was dying of cancer and used some to ease pain, and so forth. He kept telling me how powerful it was compared to the 70's. Like, scary powerful.
Everyone is using it. I smell it everywhere at the shopping malls, etc. I smell it on people waiting on me at stores.

Then there's the other psychosis that people should avoid... Drinking madness.

Pot is bad for you, and so are alcohol and tobacco. There’s no good reason for putting anyone in jail for using any of them in their own home.

Agreed.

The underlying social problem with hemp is that it encourages useful people to become slackers.

The brain, as you know, has a really complex reward circuitry that we are built with. No question that we were designed for hard work, thought, delayed gratification, moral behavior (the highest type of circuitry deals with this).

Weed and most other drugs short-circuit the circuitry and turn people into worthless lazy bums a.k.a. Rats or Libertarians.

The commies were very smart in incorporating drugs as a strategy of undermining the USA. It worked.

People I know who were chronic users have had their frontal lobes turned into gristle. Promising as children, raised in homes with high-achieving middle class parents, they lost all motivation in high school and college. High IQs but not motivated enough to do homework. Some are living on the fringes. Many are dead, very young some of them.

I always thought our developing knowledge of neuroscience vis a vis motivation and achievement, these past 30 years, would close the book on the recreational (sic) drug era, but the opposite occurred.

Yes the COMINTERN really hit one out of the park with the USA recreational drug strategy.

They, on the other hand, particularly the Chinese, treat drug use in their population with intracranial lead therapy.

Nobody is saying pot is good, but the same logic that is used to make pot illegal could also be used to make tobacco and alcohol illegal.

The commies were very smart in incorporating drugs as a strategy of undermining the USA. It worked.

So why did we send our manufacturing, technology, and money to a communist country?

Yes, we. Clinton, Gore, and Biden were on board with the trade deals with China, but most of its support came from the right, including many Freepers.

That's what really destroyed our country. Increased pot use, Joe Biden, the student loan bailouts, and a host of other ills were the results of that.

You've seen how the government has weaponized every other agency against us. Do you honestly believe we can trust them to wage an honest war on drugs?

They're the ones allowing the drugs to enter the country.

Can someone explain why it’s ok to smoke week indoors at a bar / casino but illegal to smoke cigarettes indoors.
Yes, in Illinois there are now pot consumption on site indoors facilities. Complete with a liquor gambling license.

“Not sure if it makes you crazy but the most violent demographic in the country are constant users and it sure doesn’t seem to make them peaceful”

My use of marijuana supplants my use of Vicodin to alleviate pain due to severe arthritis. Once they scheduled Hydrocodone I had no other choice. It also relaxes me and I use it only after the workday is over.
