New York Attorney General Letitia James leaves the courtroom without granting any interview after losing 80 percent of the case against Trump on day one because she could not figure out what the statute of limitations was.

The New York legislature passed a law about a year ago that the statute of limitations doesn’t apply to Trump.

Gee, that sounds like a Bill of Attainder. Unconstitutional.

So many bills of attainder!

So little time!

You are correct about the statute of limitations not applying to him.

This article isnt being totally honest.

The judge clarified comments that Trump took as a win when the trial resumed today.

“The statute of limitations bars claims, not evidence.” The judge went on to say, “I want to emphasize: I will not relitigate what I have already decided.”

Engoron ruled last week that ALL CLAIMS were allowable under the statute of limitations.

I was happy when I read the headline, but with todays media you definitely have to trust, but verify

This is a misleading article. Not a win at all

What’s the constitution among friends? It’s more important to defend democracy from someone who might try to take power away from the Democracy (the Democratic Party).

"Letitia Jimmy thought that the Statue of Limitations was the big green thing on the island in the harbor."

Exactly. As shown today people hear at FR were a little premature in their celebrations of yesterday’s court proceedings. I’m having a tough time reconciling the naivete of many of the posters here. They aren’t just going to roll over and let Trump win anything. They’re of one mind, bring Trump to heel.

They know that they don’t have a case. This is not about winning in court. This is about keeping President Trump tied up in courtrooms and spend millions to defend himself.

This is lawfare.

Yes, if the politicos who are supposedly "on our side" aren't kicking at bills of attainder and obvious lawfare "because it's a one-off", then the country is screwed.

“It’s probable that the case will be appealed on appeal and he could face charges of judicial misconduct. Trump will definitely seek revenge.”

You’re putting a lot of (unjustified) faith in the appellate process. The court that gets first crack at any appeals in this case already heard an appeal by defendants from an earlier ruling. Justice Engoron was reversed on some points. Notably, the appellate court dismissed all the claims against Ivanka, on the basis that they were barred by the statute of limitations.

But that same appellate decision rejected other claims being made by Trump and the other defendants. Notably, the court rejected some of the arguments that defendants proceeded to make all over again in their most recent motion. I don’t understand what the Trump lawyers hoped to accomplish by that. Engoron’s latest decision pointed out that the defendants were just wasting the court’s time by rehashing dead arguments.

Consequences for Engoron? No, it is not “judicial misconduct” for a judge at the trial level to interpret the law one way, only for an appellate court to disagree. It happens every day of the week. As for Trump seeking revenge — exactly how? Engoron’s position (Justice of the Supreme Court, New York County) is elective. The eligible voters are those living in Manhattan. Results in Manhattan in 2020: Biden 86%, Trump 12%. Trump can “bang on” Engoron in speeches and Truth Social posts all he wants, and the only effect will be to get Engoron MORE votes.

I’m no lawyer but I play one on FR. The bottom line is that if NY takes his property, it will be an illegal taking. It reminds me of the Kelo case. Not too mention if assets can be taken by a corrupt communist justice system, it will send shock waves through the financial markets.

“I’m no lawyer but I play one on FR.”

I guess FR isn’t covered by the SAG-AFTRA strike.

“The bottom line is that if NY takes his property, it will be an illegal taking.”

I THINK (not sure) that the remedy sought is not that the state would take his property. Instead, if a property is held by one of his companies, and that company is no longer allowed to do business, then a court-appointed receiver will take control of the company but not ownership. The receiver will arrange the sale of the property, but the proceeds of the sale will go to the owner(s) of that company.

The Attorney General is also seeking $250 million in damages. Trump and the other defendants could lose that much but not all the properties involved.

If anyone has a better handle on the possible outcomes, I’d be glad to learn more.
