“I’m already thinking of ways for the state to acquire that land so that we can put it into workforce housing, to put it back into families, or make it open spaces in perpetuity as a memorial to the people who were lost,” Green commented amid the ruins.
“We want this to be something we remember after the pain passes as a magic place. Lahaina will rebuild. The tragedy right now is the loss of life. The buildings can be rebuilt over time, even the banyan tree may survive, but we don’t want this to become a clear space where then people from overseas just come and decide they’re gonna take it. The state will take it and preserve it first.”
Green expressed concerns over foreign investors exploiting the disaster. In another briefing, Green reinforced his dedication to safeguarding the land for locals. He shared that he discussed with the Hawaiian attorney general about “options to do a moratorium on any sales of properties that have been damaged or destroyed.”
“It’s going to be a very long time before any growth or housing can be built, so you will be pretty poorly informed if you try to steal land from our people and then build here,” he remarked, emphasizing, “I will try to allow no one from outside our state to buy any land until we get through this crisis and decide what Lahaina should be in the future.”
As reported by the Honolulu Civil Beat, the fire razed over 2,000 structures, with three-fourths being residential. The death toll is around 100, but this number is likely to increase as search operations proceed.

Bodies are not even cold.
I despise these people.
Eggs for their omelette.
“Never let a good crisis go to waste”
And smiling to beat the band.
Funny how the mayor bumped the $3 million town’s emergency fund up to $40 million this year.
Funny how they recently had a meeting to somehow try to get around the no rebuilding of historical buildings to turn it into a smart town. Seems they don’t have to worry about those historical buildings now.
Funny how there was no water and the only way out was blocked by LE and this fire benefitted no one but the evil ones.
This will be an ugly push to build the first hyper-”green” city. Of course, the usual cast of billionaires will own the beachfront and ocean view homes. Peasants will be assigned to the bleachers.
Part of me would love to see Hawaii declare independence and nationalize all the land.
And then corner lock it for Orpra and Bezos to enjoy.
Say that game. Got the scars.
If you or a family member are in the area, don’t sell. They will probably seize it, but don’t sell
Per Eminent Domain and property taxes, we own nothing.
I would actually be for that now.
Not one funeral yet that we know of and this ******e already moving to scoop up the propert of the deceased.
Nothing behind the scenes there...
They can take a number. Let Texas secede first.
I know.
Very interesting. Thank you very much. In reading it, I thought of the TV show Yellowstone and the family’s fight to save their ranch.
Fat one shopping for more land to add to the 1,000 acres?
Be fun watching to see how far idiot Green’s “allow no one from outside our state to buy any land” lasts when it is some elite democrat offering money and campaign cash.
They let Øbowel tear down the historic Andersen estate.
Democrats screwing over other democrats...perfect!
Are mainland negros considered haoles?
Sure are not Hawaiians.
Kalifornia democRATS starved the central valley of water. Once the farmers could not afford to keep farming, the local and State gov bought the farms for penniless on the dollar. These same creeps then sold the land to developers, and no doubt each democRAT received their 10%.
If you drive down Hwy 5, there are signs Pelousy Created Drought.
“options to do a moratorium on any sales of properties that have been damaged or destroyed.”
I can’t think of anything that will help the affected people more than telling them they can’t sell their land that is likely the only freakin thing of value they have left.
Is this like the Bee, or is that jack@$$ governor really going after the property?
