So this morning, hubby and I visited a nearby church after having been invited by a neighbor. After the musical portion of the service, the pastor stood on the stage and asked us to turn in our Bibles to Ephesians 1.
He then started to speak of discipleship and for examples, instead of reading from the Bible itself, he started speaking of a Dr. Suess book. Next, he moved to Disney movies and stated, "As anyone will tell you, I'm a big fan of Disney".
Six to 7 minutes in, and he had yet to read from the Bible.
The church pews were filled and at least one-third of those in attendance was pre-teen and teen girls and boys.
Hubby and I got up and left. We felt that to stay would indicate we too were supporters of Disney and its policies.
My question........ Is this a nationwide thing being pushed in today's churches? Is anyone else seeing and hearing an endorsement of Disney by pastors and teachers in church?
Yes! Our Pastor talked about the “Light shows” and “concerts” at church. Every Sunday is scripture driven.
We do a “truth in fiction” for teenagers and tweens where they read fiction novels like CS Lewis’ books and discuss it as it pertains to religion. They’ve also done night classes in conjunction with The Chose, but that’s about as far out as it gets.
You are no alone in feeling this way. Some people have the Scriptures, but they don’t have the love. Some have the love, but they don’t have the Scriptures. Some have the light show and rock concert and they don’t know who Christ is at all.
I think you need to write to the church or talk with the pastor directly and tell him how far off the path of God he is/they are. You’re called to witness the truth to other believers as well
I’m a “recovering Methodist”, but I left the UMC many years ago.
Nope. We sang hymns, we prayed, he read Scripture and talked solely about it, we sang again and then again and we went home and I vacuumed.
was he a young man? ( under 40) just curious.
No bible believing church would say nice things about Disney right now. Sounds like you went to a liberal church. These churches are Christian in name only.

It used to be rare to find churches which didn’t value the bible. I did attend one decades ago. The sermon started with a sappy smile on the pastor’s face, and the days thesis, “Love makes the world go ‘round.” That’s as deep as it got. I don’t think there was a bible on the lectern.
It’s increasingly common to find such churches. As our enemies attack decency in all forms, it infuses the church because the bible counters everything our enemies want for us.
"The Peoples Temple", was a perfect example of that kind of "Church". We all know how that story ended.
There’s a tremendous amount of good Bible teaching available on the internet.
Yes, there is! That phenomenon is a blessing from COVID not expected by the wicked.
Last year, my wife and I attended the wedding ceremony of our nephew’s daughter.
It was a “Disney Wedding,” at Walt Disney World, Florida. “How nice?” NOT!
There was not one mention of God or Jesus or any scripture read.
The theme was Disney. Dreams, Imagination, hopes for the future, etc.
The officiate was a woman who referred to the couple as “Partners,”
not Husband and Wife. She is “licensed by the state,’ she proudly told us.
Why bother to call it a “Wedding?”
Disney is, “all in,” on a “sacrilegious ceremony!”
Won’t go there again.
YouTube shorts has filled my TV zombie with “Christ and Him Crucified” Preachers but the Stupid Cat Videos catch my eye.
Just look at Shane Idleman and the church ⛪️ he preaches at, Westside Christian Fellowship in Leona Valley, California.
I don’t know much about Shane but appreciate that he works from prepared notes and has the right demeanor before the congregation.
The Baptists now have their own break away faction: the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Any Baptist Church aligned with the CBF is pro homo, pro abortion and NOT where a scripture believing servant wishes to be seen.
