Currently, the U.S. Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency standard requires a fleet average of 49 mpg for car manufacturers, which is already kinda ridiculous.
And now here's what Biden and the Left want to do to that number:
Biden Admin Wants 58 MPG Fuel Efficiency Standard By 2032
πππ Seriously, these people want us in electric vehicles, stat. There's no other way to look at this.
The Biden administration on Friday announced a proposal to require raising fuel economy standards to 58 miles per gallon.
The proposal, from the Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), would aim for a respective 2% annual increase for passenger cars, and a 4% increase in light trucks' Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards for 2027 - 2032 models, and would require 2030 - 2035 "heavy-duty pickup trucks and vans" to boost fuel economy by 10% per year.
Yeah, I bet that's gonna work out for automakers!
Sorry for the sarcasm, but car manufacturers are already paying record penalties for these fuel efficiency standards, and the price they pay in penalties is going up as well. GM estimates that these new rules could cost the industry over $100 billion in new penalties.
The Alliance for Automotive Innovation which represents GM, Toyota, Volkswagen and others has asked the EPA to soften its emissions proposal, calling it "neither reasonable nor achievable."
It's easy to see what they're doing here.
They're simply, by executive fiat, phasing out gas-powered vehicles.
"If finalized as proposed, the updated standards would save Americans hundreds of dollars at the pump," reads a NHTSA press release. "all while making America more energy secure and less reliant on foreign oil"...
The NHTSA also estimates $18 billion of "combined benefits" would be realized as a result.
The rule, according to the agency, "will encourage manufacturers producing (internal combustion engine) vehicles during the standard-setting timeframe to achieve significant fuel economy, improve energy security, and reduce harmful pollution by a large amount."
It's all sunshine and lollipops, folks, until that beautiful gas-guzzling SUV in your garage becomes irreplaceable and you have to live the rest of your life running your car on rationed electricity.
the reality is EVs will be a luxury for most
most people will be forced onto public transportation
Good for him. I want him in JAIL next week.
I have a thumping 2019 Royal Enfield Bullet 500 which gets 98 mpg with its massive, long-stroke one cylinder. Given enough time, it can hit 70 mph, but it will be shaking like an old washing machine.
We had this with the VW Diesel and they didn’t like it.
Of course they didn’t.
It caused too much freedom.................
We are at the ‘Fascist’ stage.................
My Jeep already identifies as a 100 mph vehicle. Science and gas pumps say otherwise, but my Jeep is mileage fluid and who am I too judge?
The 98 MPG is impressive. My freeway capable bikes take premium fuel. The rest run on regular, but don't have the performance reserve to live safely on the 80 MPH I-15 freeway. The Honda CTX700 runs on regular and delivers 61 MPG. It's not a good 80 MPH machine. The Kawasaki Versys (650) runs on premium with top speed of 128 MPH and delivers 53 MPG using premium gas. Similar displacement with significant performance difference.
No problem. Biden thinks he is above the law. It won't turn out well.
Weren’t gasoline cars to be banned by then?
Only for the peons...............
That's not what I mean, and I think you know that.
You work, they pay you, you do what you want with your paycheck. That includes buying a car ... which (a different) they want to deny you the ability to do. They want you to depend on Government Almighty for everything, including transportation.
This is the same Jao Bai-din driving around in a vintage Corvette (with a trunk full of classified documents).
"Rules for thee but not for me."
Yea, Yea, Yea, and people in HELL want Ice Cream Cones too.
The Royal Enfield Bullit 500 was the fastest motorcycle in production when it was introduced in 1933. Some changes were made since, like fuel injection, disc brakes, and minor frame adjustments, but when they ceased making them in 2019 it was then probably the slowest motorcycle in general production at 28 hp. It just handles so gracefully and is a joy to ride with a 19’ front wheel. Mine is Battle Green with kaki panniers, and even old ladies — girls my age — roll down their windows to say what a beautiful bike it is.
Unlimited mileage, instant power, high torque, all wheel drive.
They have been doing this for years with diesel-electric trains.
This will also simplify managing assembly lines and supply chains for manufacturers who still need to make EV models until they are phased out.
The ruling elite will not be affected by this. kerry will still have his limousines. biden will still have his heavy armoured cars. The ruling elite will do as they wish while the ordinary folks will work till they drop and pay all they have to remain alive.
