City of the Apes
Somebody has to say it
“How did Johannesburg, once a shining oasis, deteriorate into a crumbling hellscape within a relatively short span of time?”
They ran off the White Afrikaaners that’s how....the ones that weren’t murdered in cold blood that is.
Their farms produced enough food not only for export but also enough to help feed their nation.
Taken away by political fiat and given to “the rightful black owners” who knew absolutely NOTHING about farming....and those farms now sit idle, unproductive and overgrown.
They got what they wanted...and this is the result.
Duh
I was in Capetown in the ‘90s. Seemed peaceful but there were signs posted in front of nearly every home with the name of a security company and the words “Armed Response.”
Today, it’s a hell hole. Attempting to bring civilization to uncivilized brutes always fails.
Totally and inexorably predicted.
What caused this is Socialism/ Communism and the legacy of Nelson Mandela.
You don't even have to go as far a Africa to see it. Any large Democrat run city is the same if not worse.
And even smaller cities like Jackson, MS evoke a chuckle once you dig into how those responsible for infrastructure got appointed to their jobs. Johannesburg on the Pearl.
Detroit, Chicago, Baltimore, NYC, LA...well on their way.
South Africa had one of the best economies in the world back in the day.
The same can be said for EVERY black run city in America (and in entire world for that matter).

Damn
Johannesburg is now looking a lot like San Francisco.
Too much jubilation.
I don’t think the author of the article has actually read Lord of the Flies.
What’s the word?
I used to work with South Africans.
Mostly older guys that grew up under apartheid. Former cops and military guys.
1. Mandela was a communist and terrorist that set off bombs and murdered people.
2. He was not the political prisoner Carter and the rest of the world made him out to be.
3. Older black South African’s, according to my former co-workers, want “apartheid” back, to some extent. They had electricity, water and far less corruption and theft.
4. After Mandela, all the leadership has only gotten worse. They decided that anyone that comes into the country, just walks across the border, will be granted citizenship and all the benefits that go with it.
5. What little money the country has is, for the most part, stolen.
6. When they seize the farms from the white farmers, if they don’t murder them, the first thing that is usually done is, all the equipment is sold. The farm never again produces any kind of food.....Fortunately there is some sort of silver lining...Some of the blacks that have obtained some of the farms, have asked the former owner to come back or stay, continue farming, live their lives and share any profits. They do the same thing in Zimbabwe now that it has new leadership. The former Rhodesia was known as the Bread Basket of Africa for it’s ability to grow and produce food. Mugabe destroyed all of that but the new guy is apparently trying to get the old farmers back to restore the ag industry. They just can’t own the property anymore. Why was Putin asking SAs to come to Russia and offering them land?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGZLYx8StWk .... some of these guys make well over $100k a year, sometimes closer to $200k for this job, if you live to spend it.
Detroit did the same thing.
Hey, author! (not you, poster)
Everybody knows.
Everybody.
The same thing has happened to every British Colony turned independent.
Every former colonial city turned independent no matter under what colonial power.
Former beautiful and well run colonial enclaves turned to veriatible crap holes.
