Here’s an interesting one for you. The “Greater Idaho” movement, which advocates for several counties in Oregon to secede from the deep blue state and join Idaho, has sparked a passionate debate among residents and politicians. Supporters argue that secession would allow conservative-leaning counties to align themselves with a more politically compatible state, while opponents believe it would be detrimental to all parties involved.
But this regional debate raises another issue: the possibility that it could be a precursor to a national divorce.
A significant chunk of Oregon’s counties has signaled that they wish to leave the state and join up with Idaho:
One-third of Oregon counties have voted in support of the “Greater Idaho” movement to secede from Oregon to join their conservative eastern neighbors.Wallowa County became the 12th in Oregon to join the initiative after officials finalized the special election results Tuesday, according to Fox News.
The movement started in 2019 when Oregonians living in rural areas of the state decided they would be better off if they could become part of Idaho, a red state whose politics line up more with theirs. On the website, the organization points out that “[s]tate lines have been relocated many times in American history because it just takes an interstate compact between two state legislatures and the approval of Congress.”
Supporters of the movement highlight several key points. First and foremost, they argue that joining Idaho would better represent the values and interests of the rural and conservative counties involved. They believe that the current political landscape in Oregon, particularly in the more populous and liberal western regions, does not adequately reflect their beliefs and priorities. By becoming part of Idaho, they anticipate a stronger representation of their conservative views in state governance.

Critics question the feasibility of merging the two states, as it would require complex legal processes and could result in administrative challenges and disruptions. As the website explained, there are many difficult legal obstacles to overcome before this endeavor could be fulfilled.
Opponents of the Greater Idaho movement also highlight the potential social and cultural impacts. They argue that secession could further polarize communities and exacerbate divisions within the region. Some worry that leaving Oregon could isolate the counties from the rest of the state and diminish opportunities for collaboration, shared resources, and cultural exchange.
This is an interesting conversation as it pertains to the autonomy of local communities. But it also reflects a deeper reality bubbling under the surface. While the movement itself is currently focused on a regional secession, it seems reasonable to suggest that it could set a precedent for broader divisions within the country.
The key word is COUNTIES. Cities are lost-game over. Would Oregon give up the 2-3 electoral votes to the GOP?-no way. It’s doable. Why? It’s because this isAmerica. We get things done. Just find a way where the city lefties won’t find a way to game the system like they always do.
Idaho/Oregon-plant the seed and watch the brushfire.
This is the result of one-party rule driven by universal mail-in voting. Everywhere with universal mail-in balloting has one-party rule or is trending that way.
The Rat infection will likely follow.
Idaho is where to be. If youse can cut it.
I was getting civilized but still they were years ahead of what I had to bring.
Thanks for the post.
God willing, it does. This country is finished as a 50-state entity.
Democrats: We believe in self-determination! Let people everywhere decide their own future.
News item: Some conservative counties want to leave their liberal states.
Democrats: Hell, no! Those counties have no right to do that.
No one is mentioning the very conservative north California counties bordering southern Oregon.
Pre wwII with southern Oregon and a conservative California north counties forming a new state, the state of Jefferson.
The State of Jefferson is a proposed U.S. state that would span the contiguous, mostly rural area of southern Oregon and Northern California, ... If the proposal were ever approved, the new state’s capital city would ...
Just expel California and New York from the Union and take Hawaii back to territorial status.
Will fix 99% of the problems.
I visited Northern Idaho (Coeur d'Alene) a few years ago. I saw a dozen or so Trump flags, and a Gadsden flag, but also a few Rainbow flags.
And I saw "Love Lives Here" signs in a half dozen store windows.
The rot is everywhere.
RE: Just expel California and New York from the Union and take Hawaii back to territorial status.
What do we do with Massachusetts, New Jersey and Illinois?
Everything you typed is nothing but noise from the Left.
All over this country, areas/towns/neighborhoods, fed up with their local government, incorporate all the time.
Of course the left wants to complicate this. It’s the only thing they know how to do.
These counties are now part of Idaho. Here is the state line. County and city governments in the new Idaho counties will meet in the Capitol to work out changing some names on the paperwork.
Cops, deputies and fire fighters that used to work in Oregon are now sworn in Idaho.
Western Mass, aside from the colleges, most of Illinois and a sizable chunk of interior NJ is Conservative. They’re just drowned out by the cities.
Outside of Chicago, and a few other cities, Illinois is farm country. Some of the best deer hunting in the country.
Hell, if we just isolated and walled off the cities, and controlled the liberals moving out of them, this country would be back on track in less than a year.
I hope it is. I am sick of leftist, democrat, communists having any say in government.
We need a national divorce, however, I have to think about the red areas of blue states (most of Maine, upstate New York and the Quiet Corner of Connecticut) because good Americans live there, too.
some people would see this as acceptable but I say let’s get it on like it’s 1861 and end liberalism for good.
So is Connecticut...
I visited rural Washington state just weeks before Trump was elected in 2016, and there was nothing but Trump signs in the yards (well, I saw one “Hillary for Prison” sign).
The national divorce needs to be statehood for the major metropolitan areas - so the rot is contained to their borders. Democrats will fight it fiercely, but places like Chicago, Philadelphia, , Milwaukee, Atlanta, and Phoenix need to be kicked out of their respective states and forced to operate as new and separate separate city-states, rather than be allowed to continue to dominate governance over large geographical areas.
