Well if Bahkmut is valuable please state what the value is? The only value at this point is symbolic which does matter, but of strategic value not much for either side. Except for who lost more people and at what proportion.
Depending on who you believe Ukraine either took a lot more casualties than Russia or Russia took more than Ukraine.
But common sense says the defender loses less than the offense.

Delusions??? Muskovy has been an existential threat to every neighboring country for centuries. They learned how from the Mongols.

Speaking of delusions, Larry Johnson claimed the US would lose a head-to-head conventional war with Russia. Meanwhile, 15 months into this 3-day war, Russia is stalemated mostly along the lines it established in the first days of its surprise attack. With Ukraine, of all countries, which is using its own worn out Soviet-era gear and near scrap date Western gear and ammunition doled out in tiny quantities.
Note that during the Vietnam War, North Vietnam received 500 late model fighter jets and 2000 tanks, as a Russian government website acknowledges. And in that war, Vietnamese communists had an almost unbroken record of failure in terms of warding Uncle Sam off with respect to any real estate he wanted to take or hold. Whereas Ukraine has not only kept the Russians from advancing further, it has pushed the Russians back - from Kiev’s outskirts, Kharkov’s outskirts and Kherson.

Here is the truth. The United States has not fought a real Army and Air Force in the last 50 years. The Vietnam War was the last time we fought a genuine Army and we failed to win that contest.
In saying this I am not disparaging the grit and sacrifice of the soldiers, sailors, marines and aviators who fought and died in Vietnam. They were betrayed by military and political leaders who lied about the war and used those lies to rally a majority of Americans to support a hopeless military mission.
In the intervening fifty years America has sent its military forces to “fight” in Honduras, Grenada, Lebanon, Kuwait, Iraq, Panama, Somalia, Libya, Syria and Afghanistan.
We have not fought a single country with a legitimate air force or functioning army. And we have not prevailed in all of those contests. Anyone prepared to argue that we won victories in Somalia or Afghanistan? Give it your best shot.]

I suspect Russia lost twice as many men as Ukraine in the fight over Bakhmut partially due to being an attacking force but mainly due to poor unit level leadership.
Bear in mind that the men Ukraine lost were mainly top notch and many of the dead Russians were convicts trying to win their freedom.
I also suspect Russia is going to retrain their forces so its casualties will be lower.
The USA sends $150 Billion to Ukraine.
Ukraine can’t even hold Bakhmut.
The US news media coverage of the war compares poorly to that of India, France and many other countries.
