Parents and taxpayers need to know what’s going on in the Shawnee Mission School District (SMSD).
As an English teacher employed in the SMSD for 15 years, I can no longer stay silent about the state of our schools. I will be attacked and threatened, but for the good of our district and the students with whom we are entrusted, I must speak out. This is too important.
Amidst a worsening teacher shortage that saw SMSD pay $3.5 million to out-of-state agencies to recruit and retain more educators, we are losing good teachers because of an imposed divisive rhetoric that does not inspire mutual goodwill. In my school alone, three teacher-coaches left in March and recently, in one day, four more teachers said they are contemplating leaving the profession.
We are being manipulated and intimidated by a divisive “woke” ideology that is creating a culture of contempt and disrespect.
SMSD is fostering a toxic environment and requiring employees to attend Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) training and workshops centered around Critical Race Theory, including Black Lives Matter in the Classroom and Social Justice in the Classroom (using teachers’ “white privilege,” “white supremacy” and “de-colonizing our classrooms” propaganda).

And some of these dummies think it’s all from people moving in from CA. Never mind the fact their own public schools in their own states are producing hundreds of thousands of newly minted leftist voters every single year. Millions nationwide.
This is the suburban district where i went to school in the 50s and 60s. Still very decent neighborhoods. It was nationally known in my era for excellence.
It is the teachers themselves and their schools for Education degrees.
DH and I were discussing this the other day. Kansas, in the Heartland. Not on the progressive West Coast, or in the Northeast...

God Bless you Caedran Sullivan for your courage in speaking out against the indoctrination of our kids in public schools. This is child abuse of the highest order that is teaching our kids how to hate one another. It must be stopped.

Also lazy, unquestioning school board members that rubber stamp everything the administration does.
This is what we’re fighting in my small town district. Not so much evil as cluelessness. Our school administration and teachers are for the most part “okay” — for the moment — but the external pressure to “go woke and perverse” is INTENSE.

Plus, the parents who are “on” to the scam are typically only fully engaged with the school district’s misbehavior when their children are about to be or are being impacted. Long enough for their children to be identified by enforcers among tenured faculty in the district and targeted for poor treatment as retaliation for having an active, interested parent who had the temerity to push back.
Says most Americans.
The administration’s have to be made to understand that if the board is unhappy they will be fired. Period. Full stop.
They, in turn, will deal with the teachers and the teachers have to know what they are expected to accomplish.
