There is usually a ‘reset’ in the cars dashboard display controls................
Have you tried reading the Owner’s Manual?
It will tell you how to reset that oil change light.
Google the make/model/year of car and “oil change reset”, it should come up. Might be in the manual too.
In old computer geek parlance, RTFM.
Most modern cars have a way to reset the service intervals short of doing a full factory reset. You will likely receive more helpful replies if you supply the make, model and year of the car.
Every car with an oil life monitoring system has a way to reset it after an oil change, but it must be reset manually.
Tell me the exact make, model, and year, and I can probably Google it for you.
Usually you can reset the oil meter. Very modern cars use more than an odometer to give you a “status”. If you wait for it to feel or sound bad…you’ve waited too long.
But do a search for your make, model, and year with “Reset oil” and you will likely find a video to show you how to do it.
It’s usually pretty easy.
Might help if you mention the make, model and year of this vehicle
Don’t reset it. Instead, change the setting to show you changed the oil.
Your oil change people forgot to do so. It’s a user setting.
It’s just Biden messing with you because they don’t want you using ANY oil.
Since you say you changed it 1000km ago, can we assume you’re not in the USA and not an American?
Regardless, find a car forum for that make and model. You’re looking for technical advice on a political forum. Not really a bright move.
It is a 2012 Chev Impala ... I didn’t look in owner’s manual thinking this was at a dealer level of car knowledge rather than an owner’s level, if you get my meaning. But maybe it’s in there, I am looking now. The fact that it started to give me this bogus info around the mileage on the sticker (from previous owner) made me suspect it had been programmed in.
I bought it from a rental company and still take it to their garage but I don’t want to drop a hundred bucks just to ask a few questions (again if you get my meaning). Also the garage and the rental company while under one ownership may not communicate seamlessly (apparently the garage didn’t know the rental people had programmed in their sticker info, which was 227,500 but I got my oil changed at 226,500 just because I had other work needed then). My guess is they either forgot to reprogram or a different mechanic who didn’t know it was being done worked on my oil change?
I am nowhere near the next minimum oil change, maybe halfway to it, plus I don’t think cars always need oil changes that often. Thanks for looking in.
There is a method for resetting the oil change/maintenance required light. All it does is rest the mileage counter until it comes on again. It varies from maker to maker. Look up how to reset the light on your vehicle.
simple search turned this up: YMMV
“To reset the oil change light on a 2012 Chevy Impala, turn on the ignition but do not start the engine.01 Depress the accelerator to the floor 3 times within 5 seconds. The oil light should blink and then go out.
How to Reset Oil Life: Chevrolet Impala 2010-2013
1-Turn the ignition to run (second position)
2-Press the INFO (i) button to scroll until the ‘’Oil Life’’ displays.
3-Press and hold the SET/RESET (check mark) button until the “Oil Life” display changes to 100 percent.
There is no solution for a metric car.
