Northwest Florida Congressman Gaetz proposes nationwide 'Stand Your Ground' laws

Northwest Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz is trying to make "Stand Your Ground" a national law.

"Stand Your Ground" allows you to use deadly force to defend yourself or someone else. The bill is already gaining support from some congressional republicans and those in the Senate.

Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson is a big supporter of the "Stand Your Ground" law.

Sheriff Johnson says he likes Gaetz's bill, but feels he faces an uphill battle getting the bill to the president's desk.

States across the country have various laws in defending yourself. Some states have the castle doctrine, which references old European law. Other states have a duty to retreat law, but more than half the country allows you to stand your ground.

Congressman Gaetz hopes his bill will make it a nationally recognized law.

Fat chance Sundowner would ever sign a law like this. His handlers would never put it in front of him. Still, it is long overdue. And if the law is to be really protective, I would hope it would include language to protect people who use lawful deadly force to have protections from retaliatory criminal prosecution or civil lawsuits.

The fact it has to be stated shows how far we’ve come from a basic understanding of the Constitution.

Good idea if it can pass.

We’re going to need it pretty soon with biden’s reprehensible border handling.

My state is a stand your ground state but I will do it anyway regardless of what laws are in place because when it is all said and done it is better judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Exactly. Why are we making laws for that which is constitutionally self-evident?

That’s basically what we had in 1776. Just revert back to that. Rescind every gun law created since 7/4/1776.

I don’t worry about laws concerning bad guys with guns. That’s a waste of time and energy. You have to assume they will have them anyway.

I am afraid of guns even though I’ve been around them my whole life. I wish I weren’t so skittish.

I like it at least being out there. Berney didn’t get his 15 dollar an hour minimum wage nationally. But he began yelling it and now many states implemented it or on their way. Small steps are the way to get things done in this country.

I just wish that the present Supreme Court would issue a ruling that the Constitution does not require a permit to conceal carry, and all laws enacted mandating permission now or in the future are null and void. That, coupled with a permanent restraint on banning firearms would be a heaven sent kick to the groin of President Sundowner and minions of his ilk.

Freeper metmom touches on an issue that I wish the courts fully understood. We are being invaded, and the invaders spit on our laws. But not only do they ignore our laws, blue state politicians continue to forgive hardened criminals while continuing to prosecute and persecute citizens who have a right to self defense. Now, more than ever, the law abiding citizens of our nation need a ruling to end the blue states repression of 2nd Amendment rights.

Finally, the 2nd Amendment needs to be addressed by the courts as an actionable civil right, with sanctions and monetary penalties personally levied against politicians who continue to pass unconstitutional restrictions on the right to carry.

Honestly the only way to combat that is at the gun range. First with a trainer for awhile. You’ll see remarkable changes in your thoughts. It’s nice that you recognize that you are a bit skittish.

The ONLY damn people that come out ahead with $15.00 minimum wage is the treasury Dept. with all the extra payroll taxes from employers!! The cost of EVERYTHING goes up due to higher wages so the higher wage doesn’t do the worker any damn good whatsoever because they are paying far more for EVERYTHING they purchase!!!

I understand. The point is that Berney didn’t get it nationwide but was able to get a majority of states to implement it. The same can be done with stand your ground.

Hope it will get to the floor! I want to see how many Dems will support it and how many Republicans will not.

I’m considering that. Not sure why I’m skittish as I was raised with guns all around. Dad and my grandpas hunted. (We actually ate squirrel.) And my years living in Alaska, everyone hunted.

We’re gonna need stand your ground laws with the U.S. officially becoming a third world sh*thole run by fascist pigs and thieving crooks using the internet to steal the money belonging to Americans. That’s why they’re all chompin’ at the bit to get here. All these invaders coming into the asylum aren’t going to want to work for a living. They’re socialists and communists and they aren’t changing. The Land of the Free Sh*t and dumbass targets with money is the new motto for our country. The septic tank to the world.

Self-defense is the natural follow-on to defunding police and letting criminals go free. If the police aren’t going to stop the creepy-crawlers, we will.

And the results won’t be pretty … for the bay guys.

No.

Leave the making of laws re self-defense, to each state. Otherwise, the federal government will usurp (AGAIN/MORE) the laws of each state - esp. the common law.
