Hybrid Dogs, sometimes called Mixed Breed Dogs, Designer Dogs, or Cross Breed Dogs, are dogs that have been intentionally bred from two or more purebred pooches. Needless to say, purebred pups have their charms and are celebrated with dog shows. However, Hybrid or Cross Breed Dogs are multi-talented and striking in appearance and deserve love, too.

Mutts. They’re called mutts.
My wife and I have “Frorkie”...French Bulldog/Yorkshire Terrier cross...Cutest dog EVAH!!!!!!!!
We just put our Chorki to sleep (Chihuahua mixed with Yorki, but her temperament was more Yorki). One of the sweetest, most gentle dogs we have ever owned. I miss her terribly.
But Chief says he'll take one of these:
"The Jackie-Bichon is a combination of the Jack Russell Terrier and the adorable Bichon Frise. Full-grown Jackie-Bichons tend to look like the Jack Russell Terrier much more than the Bichon Frise. They are described as intelligent, gentle, and energetic dogs that need a lot of exercise. An adult Jackie-Bichon stands up to 12 inches tall and weighs between 9 and 18 pounds."
I am so sorry
Just remember you gave your sweet doggy a wonderful life
"Hybrid" dogs (i.e. mutts) are almost never health tested. They can inherit the typical genetic diseases and disabilities of BOTH parents in whole or in part. They have temperamental problems as well, which are never addressed because the average "hybrid" breeder doesn't test for temperament either, and doesn't really care about the pedigrees or COI of their breeding dogs. As a result, many of these dogs wind up being euthanized for health and temperament problems, being dumped at the pound, or just abandoned.
Ethical "heritage" breeders of traditional sport and working dogs do not participate in this nonsense. This means that the parents of the "hybrid" dogs are not good examples of their own breeds to begin with, because they can't get the good ones.
In fact, unscrupulous "hybrid" breeders go to great lengths to try to con the owners of well bred dogs into breeding with their dogs. As a result, some friends of mine who are top drawer Standard Poodle breeders (one of their dogs just won Best in Show at the Poodle Nationals) no longer do AI at all - and do not allow their dogs to be sold intact. It really is that bad.
Ordinarily, "mutt" dogs are from chance breedings, not "designer" breedings = designed to make money. The so-called hybrid vigor is due to the fact that weak examples of chance breedings do not survive, because there is no money in it. The "designer" breeders save and sell every possible pup, regardless of its health.
What's more, they charge astronomical prices. A friend just told me their son and his wife bought a "Labradoodle" and paid nearly 5,000 for it. The best breeder of Labradors in the country only charges 3,000 - and that's a completely health-tested dog with a star-studded pedigree going back to the original Labs imported to the U.S.
This is an unethical, risky racket. Don't get involved.
I have a Catahoula. 300+ years of crossbreed mastiff and greyhound. Loyal, loving, big, unique bark.
… every established breed was formed out of previous breeds
Concur. Any dog can be a faithful pet, but the purebreds have been selectively chosen for the best characteristics. While it’s possible a new breed could arise from careful crossing, the haphazard way it is done almost ensures that some of the worst of both breeds gets infused into the lines.
I see this with Boston Terriers being crossed with Frenchies, Chihuahuas and everything else. It results in crazy color combinations and eye color and very different temperaments; very often with aggravated health problems.
Of course, a mutt can be a loving and loved pet; but a true mutt, after generations of breed blending, is more likely to be healthy, smart and loving than a designer dog which is forced mash of conflicting characteristics.
Mutts.
PC culture has convinced everyone you can’t use that word.
About an animal.
They are mutts and people have become suckers for these and perfect prey for their “breeders”.
It’s only legitimate if the breeder or group of them truly is interested in creating a new breed. Which they could do in a few generations. But these people just get hold of whatever of the 2 breeds they can.
At least mutts used to be “accidents”. Now people are paying more for these deliberate mutts than a dog that breeds true.
Is that a dogalytic converter above his right rear leg?
Exactly.
And they should never cost more than a breeder’s purebred.
I have a different experience. I have a Pitsky, that is as hybrid Pit Bull / Husky. She has all the great features of a Husky -- loving, loves people and other dogs, vocalizes in a neat way (not barking), has beautiful cobalt-blue eyes, and a husky face.....and all the great features of a Pitty -- muscular, great physique, playful, short fur (I live near Atlanta, a Husky would have a hard time with our heat), and a uniform coat color.
Her only real fault is she is a cat killer. I saw her go after one of our cats one time. She did not decide to, it was pure instinct. We keep the dog and cats separate of course.
I love my Pitsky.
Thank you so much! That means a lot.
