The Reason for That Trump Grand Jury Delay: DA Bragg's Case May Be in Big Trouble
Red State ^ | 03/22/2023 | Nick Arama

As we reported earlier, the grand jury proceedings that were supposed to take place Wednesday were abruptly canceled by the Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s office. There were reports that they were supposed to hear from at least one additional witness but that did not happen.

Bragg’s office wasn’t talking about the reason for the delay, saying “We can’t confirm or comment on Grand Jury matters.”

But sources familiar with the case told Fox that the proceedings were canceled “amid ‘major dissension’ within the district attorney’s office. One source claimed the district attorney is having trouble convincing the grand jury on potential charges due to the ‘weakness’ of the case.”

The sources also said that Trump has not been formally notified about whether Bragg does plan to bring an indictment and that despite all the hullabaloo, “there remains a real chance that Bragg does not choose to indict the former president.”

I just have to shake my head after all this, I wrote about this over the weekend — not so fast, it’s not a done deal yet. They knew this case was a turkey, and that’s why the feds wouldn’t pursue it. He, Bragg, knew it was a turkey. That’s why he didn’t pursue it when he first came in and had controversy over that.

So why did Bragg pursue it now? The case didn’t get any better in the meantime. The only thing that happened was that Trump was going to run for president in 2024 and they needed some way to take him down — to take up his time, focus the electorate on that, rather than on Joe Biden’s failures, and deplete Trump monetarily.

There’s an old joke that a prosecutor could indict a ham sandwich. All that means is that basically the prosecutor has great influence over the grand jury and can get them pretty much to indict anyone. There’s no defense presented in the grand jury proceedings so it is easy to see why this would be true. But if this is true — that they’re having trouble convincing the grand jury — it sounds like this case is such a turkey that even a New York grand jury isn’t going for it. Imagine how bad it must be if he can’t indict the sandwich in New York City.

Now, maybe part of the reason for the problems is the testimony on Monday from witness Robert Costello, Michael Cohen’s former legal adviser. Costello said he was able to tell the grand jury that Cohen previously said that Trump had not been told about the payment to Stormy Daniels and that Cohen was a serial liar. Costello, who used to be a Deputy Chief in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, said he would never have put on a compromised witness like Cohen. He also said he thought he got through to some of the members of the grand jury.

What the “dissension” is over, I can only imagine but at this point, they must know that this has embarrassed them before the world for trying to go ahead with it and it makes them look so ridiculously political. Bragg should have stuck with his original position.

Meanwhile, while Democrats look bad and political, Trump is rising in the polls. If this all ultimately ends up in nothing, I can’t imagine the meltdowns on the left when they thought they finally got him on something. It’s going to be glorious to behold.

But sources familiar with the case

Ahhh ... those garbage unnamed sources again ...

it sounds like this case is such a turkey

That has been obvious from the start, no secret sources needed. This is easily the most chickensh!t prosecution I have ever seen.

I wouldn’t be surprised. Not just to see it but also be there to be interviewed live on sight and say something along the lines of “what a sad and tragic day it is for the country and a reminder of what a dark period it was for the country but that now the country may finally be able to move toward having justice and closure for what he put us through.”

I can see and hear her saying just about those exact words.

Pelosi and her misfit husband were in NYC for a Wall Street Journal “Women in the Workplace” event at Lincoln Center.

You’d be better off ignoring at least 90% of the idiocy that passes for news coverage these days.

That sounds like Nancy: lots of phony sadness and grandiose ponderings.

It wasn’t Trump’s money. The claim is, Cohen took out a loan and paid Stormy without Trump’s OK. Apparently thinking it would ingratiate him with Trump.

I have a friend who had a business relationship with a billionaire thru a university & they went in to ask for $50,000 for a project and the guy didn’t even blink. He said later he wished he asked for more.

Exactly, I’ve settled cases similarly in my decades long career. If you have faith in your lawyer, you tell him to “go for it” if he gets the chance to settle.

Stormy probably told Cohen something like...”if I get the money RIGHT NOW I’ll sign”.

At the time, Trump obviously trusted Cohen. Cohen knew 100k would be agreeable with his client and inked the deal!

What’s the point of a Grand Jury if it’s all controlled by a prosecutor like Fat Alvin?

Trump may have considered $100k to be “petty cash” and left it up to his attorneys to deal with minor expenses.
