New York City Mayor Eric Adams has a novel idea as his administration continues to deal with thousands of migrants and illegal aliens being sent to the Big Apple: He wants residents to pay for at least some of them to attend college.
That’s right.
The money that the Empire State takes from its residents will go toward educating migrants seeking asylum, if Mayor Adams gets his way.
The New York Post reported:
Adams plans to provide as many as 100 migrants with 12 months of classes, room and board in upstate Sullivan County — and the project could continue indefinitely, The Post has learned.
The pilot program — to be overseen by Adams’ newly created city agency, the Office of Asylum Seeker Operations — involves both SUNY Sullivan community college in tiny Loch Sheldrake and The Center for Discovery, a special education school in nearby Harris.
The cost to taxpayers hasn’t been disclosed but will likely exceed $1.2 million in the first year, based on the price tag for two semesters at SUNY Sullivan alone.
The pilot program will “focus on resettlement and legal services, as well as a new 24/7 arrival center for asylum seekers,” according to a press release.
While this is a progressive white savior dream, others are not so keen on the idea. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) told the Post that Adams “is incentivizing and rewarding illegal immigration simply to export the crisis of Democrats’ own making out of New York City.”
Breitbart News noted that, “[s]ince April 2021, some 50,000 migrants have arrived in the Democrat-run sanctuary city, with more than 30,000 still in the city’s care.”
Many of these individuals are being sheltered in 85 hotels using taxpayer funding. The massive influx of migrants has harmed small businesses that typically rely on tourist dollars to stay afloat.
In a statement announcing the creation of the OASA, Adams said:
New Yorkers know that the asylum seeker of today is the citizen, the leader, and the innovator of tomorrow, and I’m proud that New York City is leading the way, turning a crisis into an opportunity for progress for the entire country.
State Sen. George Borrello, a Republican, told the Post that the mayor “is trying to spread the burden throughout the state,” and that he and Gov. Kathy Hochul “are basically covering for Biden’s failure to control the southern border.”
He added: “I guess this is about as clear as we can get that the Biden administration is not helping us at all — and that it’s simply on us to set these people up for the rest of their lives in the US.”
So, let’s sum this up, shall we?
New York City has been experiencing a serious influx of migrants and illegal aliens because President Joe Biden is not serious about securing the border or enforcing immigration policy. In response, Mayor Adams is forcing residents to pay for their lodging and wishes to take their money to also pay for 100 of these folks to attend college. This, while New York City’s businesses are suffering.
Sounds pretty progressive, doesn’t it?
They deserve everything they tolerate.
The main reasons the fall of the Roman Empire was corrupt government and runaway spending. The people as a whole didn’t care if another country took over or not because they were sick of the government they had. I see this today in our country.
This mayor comes up with ideas that sound nuttier than Joe Biden’s ideas.
That’s a pretty high hurdle to jump!
I want the mayor to live in a small basic apartment and have the mayors mansion house multiple illegals families. And still have the mayors office pay for the mansion daily expenses and taxes.
Can these peasants even speak English? And Adams actually thinks they can handle college? It’s obviously just another slush fund for NY politicians.
I want to pay them for a plane ticket home and finger prints. If you come back again you go to an internment camp for a very unpleasant stay working in the fields for zero pay and then go back home again. Plane tickets are cheap.
My wife is a Mexican National now an American Citizen many years ago. She attended our universities for her degrees. Her father paid out of country tuition which is higher than out of state tuition. Her brother took 17 years to become an American Citizen the legal way. He passed his citizenship test with a score of 100%.
Why our our borders open?

so we're paying for free college for the illegals but we leave Americans hanging....
The classes - in "Grievance Studies," "White Fragility," etc. - will, of course, be conducted in the language of the oppressed indigenous peoples (Spanish - cough, cough).

First they get a free hotel room, cable and room service. Now they are going to get a free education while everybody else has to work to pay for their handouts.
Two weeks ago Mayor Adams was complaining about the financial burden the influx of illegals was placing on the city. Now he wants to increase that burden?

The Left has already dumbed down the colleges and universities and given everyone the instruction: “Push 2 for Spanish.” Only a little more tweaking and any and every person who shows up will be enrolled and given a pass in every class, free housing and allowance, free cap and gown and a guaranteed good job upon graduation. “Fair and equitable, don’t ya’ know? The “open enrollment” disaster is not a new idea. “Open enrollment” was disastrously foisted on New York City in 1971. This version, devoted to illegals, would just bring millions more people under the protection net. The deluge of new hires will bring in masses of new instructors hired because they can breath and show up.
Doesn’t matter what they speak going in. They will be thoroughly trained in woke and outrage when they come out.
They need to be catechized in the Christian faith and educated in our founding priciples. Turn them into conservatives and turn them loose on NYC. They do not need to be indoctrinated in the ways of the left.
“Migrants” my a$$. They’re illegal aliens - criminals who violated our immigration laws and came here to steal welfare and if there is anything the taxpayers owe them it’s prison time
