Pray for Scriptural UM churches that are leaving the denomination. The headquarters are making it difficult to meet the deadline.

The legalists and doctrinal critics are out doing their thing. It’s best just to ignore them.
I watched some clips (I went to seminary at Asbury), and I didn’t see or hear anything out of line at all. It all seemed orderly and modest.
It struck me as if it were a praise service at a Christian festival with people seen in some places praying for each other and their needs.

This bears earmarks of at least these 4 biblical principles:
1. Where sin abounded, there did grace much more abound;
2. When the enemy came in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord lifted up a standard against him;
3. “For the sake of my servant... I will not destroy it”;
4. God will always preserve a remnant.

A pastor of a close friend of mine went down to Asbury from here in Maryland to see for himself. He was favorably impressed that it is a Spirit-filled gathering without apparent manipulation, but rather is student-led; that it is reverent and "Wesleyan" re the holiness aspect—no one is filming or streaming and they are pledged not to; and that it is not a matter of "emotionalism", but seems a true spiritual outcropping. He did ask for prayers, and I quote him here:
Please pray that the leaders who are shepherding this movement of God will continue to serve with humility and grace. Pray for the young people, that the fire that has been kindled in them will spread to other campuses and flow out into mission and justice.
Finally, pray for the continued purity of this movement. Some people want to disrupt things for their purposes, and the enemy always seeks to sow tares among the wheat (Mt. 13:24-30).

Watching closely. As this continues we are seeing a “cadence” to the event.
A time of invitation and repentance followed by outpouring love and forgiveness from God 1 John 1:9 being appropriately applied.
Followed by praise and worship and then more invitation and repentance etc etc.
This to me is the necessary cadence to call this a revival.
My understanding from testimonials is that this is exactly what happened last Wednesday. An invitation was given and some responded to the invitation and decided to be open and candid through repentance and forgiveness!

What does God say on the matter?
Should be the first thought in our minds.
Many worldly observations here and indirect references to God. It looks good from our point of view.
Now, how do you know what God says on the matter?
Yes, the Holy Spirit is alive and active. He does speak. But if the Holy Spirit is not pointing to Jesus (the word, not the personality) it is NOT the Holy Spirit.
Get your Bibles out and test my statement.
A hunger for God’s Word is a fruit of the Holy Spirit.
God is in this, no doubt. Any time his name is used, it is a good thing.
But, ears to hear and eyes to see. Both are a gift from God. These require the Holy Spirit AND God’s Word. One without the other doesn’t work.

Thanks for the ping. I am excited for the folks there. The heresy hunters and religious among us will always find something wrong. Let God be God. Allow the Spirit to lead. He rarely moves you in the direction you expect.
Reading about Asbury reminds me of my own grandfather. In his youth, he was Methodist circuit rider in Arkansas. He later pastored churches in SE Texas and Oklahoma. I never knew him, but have his sermon notes that were transcribed, preserved, and then passed down by my Mother to me.
