"Obviously @count18899. That is why he believed in WMD, when I didn't, and supported the Iraq war, when I didn't. No contest, really. Do you want to add that the wrong brother died (it's all included in the Twitter admission price), or are you quite done for the day?"
Peter Hitchens Twitter Post Saturday 1/28/2023 About His Differences With His Brother The Late Christopher Hitchens Over The Notion Of Weapons Of Mass Destruction In Iraq
In the aftermath of 9/11 it certainly made sense for the US military to go after Osama bin Laden and is Al-Qaeda Organization in Afghanistan.
The two-decade campaign would cost billions and end up in a debacle as the Taliban forces that harbored bin Laden would return to power.
But another priority quickly emerged from the Bush-Cheney Neoconservative policy makers was Iraq...
Of course by the time the clock reached 2006 there were no WMD's to be found in Iraq but new stories found their way into the media indicating that Sadaam Hussein had shipped them to Syria.
In 2011 jihadists (the followers of Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda) backed by Gulf Arab interests along with the UK and the US began a war against the Assad government in Syria punctuated by constant concerns about the use of chemical weapons.
At one point an international effort was undertook to remove anything...
Once Donald Trump became President incidents (Khan Sheikhoun, Douma 2018) would happen which led to cruise missile strikes on Syria...
After four plus years on Friday January 27th the OPCW is now claiming after the clouds over its chemical weapons probes in Syria that Syria's government was indeed responsible for Douma incident...

Besides all of Iraq’s documented use of WMD, I will never forget the image of a dozen or more fighter jets buried in the desert sand. Besides what we already know Hussein used, who knows what else is buried in Iraq? In a few hundred or thousand years, something will begin leaking and killing.
For anyone who believes there were NO WMD, you owe all them dead Kurds an apology.
“pretext”
Yeah, right. It’s amazing what they’ve found in Syria, isn’t it? /s
It wasn’t a myth. We knew Hussein had WMD because we were the ones who provided them, during the Iran/Iraq war.
The insanity of it all right up to the story of the Canadian intelligence operative (working for the US ultimately) smuggling underage girls in to join ISIS in Syria.
That info revealed last year in connection with the Shamina Begum case.
Yeah...huge difference from “not found” to “we KNOW there are none”. We know he had them, we know he hadn’t destroyed them all, he kicked out the U.N. inspectors. The only default position you can have is that he still had some...and they could be buried anywhere.
Maybe I’m one of the few but I believe Saddam and sons were pure evil that made an entire country a prison of fear & torture, where exporting terrorism was core business. For me, 9/11 changed what was tolerable - disposing of the worlds worst evil isn’t something I regret. ...trying to engage in nation building, especially in an Islamic state, is a fools errand however.
“The Arab Spring cannot be allowed to fail because of brutal repression, the specter of religious fanaticism, a fear of the unknown or the cynicism born of unmet expectations.”
Pontificating Schiff, along with Obama and H. Clinton, was in on the bloodlust of the Arab Spring. The devil we know was replaced by the devil we don’t know. Untold numbers of Christians were driven from their homes, kidnapped, tortured, and murdered because the Democrats and neocon warmongering Republicans, just can’t get enough blood, pain, and death.
The Arab Spring failed to do what was promised. But it did do what some intended it to do. That is, marginalize Christianity even further in Africa and the Middle East.
The NY Slimes ran with the story in 2014, detailing the injuries to US servicemen who chanced across Saddam's caches of mustard agent and sarin. The Slimes later published the US intelligence report on the events, released under FOIA. It's even been noted on Wikipedia that "... the total number of munitions discovered since 2003 had climbed to 4,990 ...."
The Daily Beast later reported that Bush administration insiders claimed that it was Carl Rove's idea to cover up having found the weapons.
Apparently they were willing to take the hit politically because they saw that as a better option than instigating the largest Islamo-Fascists scavenger hunt in history because the news, if published, would attract terrorist types from all over the planet who lusted after chemical or biological weapons.
And BTW, WMD is a disinformation term coined by the Soviets Pre-WWII. The non-prejudicial and correct military terminology is either "unconventional" or NBC (nuclear, biological, chemical) weapons.
Yes, he most certainly did.
I agree Syria is at the center of what is happening and happened in US politics. As for those WMDs I don’t know. The Syrian issue was obviously one of a coordinated push by neocons and their liberal enablers. We needed to drive home the Assad story because Western liberals wanted to flood their countries with fake Syrian refugees. Traitors like Romney and McCain got right into it, feeding the anti-Assad BS. McCain even had that famous photo that showing him shilling for anti-Jewish terrorists. Conservative voters saw through all this smoke and mirrors and applauded when they found out that Trump wasn’t about to bomb Assad into the stone age. The fact Trump did not act against Assad I think was his great sin that united fakes like Jon Bolton with the liberal left to get rid of Trump.
“”9/11 changed what was tolerable - disposing of the worlds worst evil....Saddam and sons were pure evil””
Excellent. When we went into Afghanistan, many evildoers fled to Iran and....yes....to Iraq. Hussein welcomed them with open arms, and armed them he did.” AL Queda in Iraq” became an entity to deal with. Hussein welcomed evil.
I always remember when the talking heads would repeat that the USA would have difficulty in Iraq because Iraq had the latest Russian equipment. Well, it didn’t stop us much. I also remember the faces of the young pilots in the F-117 stealth aircraft. The F-117 had not really been tested in serious combat. Everyone remembers the night-time images of Iraq’s air defenses just shooting blind into the night sky. Iraq could not ‘see’ the F-117 on radar. The faces of the young pilots, before they flew into Iraq and Baghdad, were of highly trained, almost so young you could call them boys. The looks on their faces when they returned, boys had become men.
I read quite a bit about Saddam’s sons. Sadistic SOB’s. I don’t think many realize the absolute horror of what was going on there. To think that they would have succeeded Saddam and continued it all...we ended that. I don’t know what the future holds but I hope those guys are rotting in hell, well deserved.
