If my “contributions” had not been pilfered they would easily pay for my “benefits”.
SSI has been used for everything. No wonder it is broke.
How about starting with taking everyone off of it that never worked and never paid in? That would be a great start. Obama made it permanent welfare for millions.

Another attempt at getting the GOP to play "suicide" with their future.
How about closing down all of the Federal Agencies that are not constitutional first, say like the Dept. of Education, FDA, and others and pushing their functionalities back to the states where they belong?
How about cutting the budgets (drastically) of the budgets of the Agencies that are left?
How about only allowing those that have paid into Social Security to pull money out of Social Security?
How about only allowing those that put money into the Social Security system to only pull out the same amount of money?
How about deporting ALL illegal Aliens?
How about ensuring that all monies paid into Social Security are locked down and cannot be touched for anything except Social Security?
Just by doing these logical steps there will be enough for money for Social Security and it will save Social Security.

I'm 66 and still working full time. This suggestion of pushing the retirement age out feels like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football only to have Lucy pull it away. My father died at 73. Pushing retirement to 75 pretty much ensures I'm dead before ever having a chance to retire...nevermind that I have saved and invested to have a decent retirement.

Tax the illegal immigrant laborers to the max so that they can pay for the country’s senior citizens. They need to learn how socialism works.

Nope. I am 51 and headed to retirement very soon. I joined AARP for one reason only: their militant defense of social security. I know that it all other matters AARP actually works against their own members.

So, when looking at the work force in 1940, we can eliminate nearly half of the men and about 40 percent of the women as likely future Social Security recipients. About half of those who actually made it to 65 would then collect benefits for no more than 15 years. In sum, Progressives purposely established a benefit based on a tax - with the knowledge that most people would not collect it
That's a ponzi-scheme

Life Expectancy in the U.S. Dropped for the Second Year in a Row in 2021
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/nchs_press_releases/2022/20220831.htm
“Non-Hispanic white people in the United States had the second biggest decline in life expectancy in 2021 – one full year from 77.4 in 2020 to 76.4 in 2021. Non-Hispanic Black people had the third biggest decline, a 0.7 year drop from 71.5 years in 2020 to 70.8 in 2021. Life expectancy at birth in 2021 was the lowest for both groups since 1995. After a large (4.0 year) drop in life expectancy from 2019 to 2020, Hispanic people in the U.S. had a slight decline in 2021 of 0.2 years to 77.6 years. Life expectancy for non-Hispanic Asian people also dropped slightly in 2021 – 0.1 years – to 83.5 years, the highest life expectancy of any race/ethnic group included in this analysis.”

You can go ahead and work as long as you want, leave the rest of us alone. My retirement age is 67 and I plan to do so. I very likely will have a retirement “career” but that will be my choice, not the governments.

Too long has a shrinking pool of workers been forced to fund pensioners who start collecting government benefits in their 60s and can now expect to be on the dole for 20 years or more. This would be less of a problem if the American oligarchs invested broadly in technology expanding productivity of workers. Instead the US elite decided to send 50,000 factories to China from 2001 to about 2016. Letting productivity enhancing technological development take place in other parts of the world has a knock on effect in addition to disemploying the American working class.

In short — slave labor.

I've never taken welfare, food stamps, or even student loans. The only government "handout" I ever expected was SSI and Medicare.
But as I near eligibility, it seems they want to yank it away.

Like it or not, one of the ways aging Western countries are going to have to adapt is by raising retirement ages. They don't have enough workers and they have far too many pension obligations to be able to afford. The problems with the old pension schemes are:
The people broke the deal by not having enough kids to pay for it all
Medical science increased our average lifespans considerably since these programs were implemented....thus meaning more years receiving a pension for everybody.
Less money coming in (relatively) and more money going out does not work. Trying to import 3rd worlders to take the place of the kids they never had doesn't work. It turns out humans are not a tabula rasa. They're not just going to be good little workers bees. They come with cultures and values of their own. If you're not the one making and raising them, those cultural values/expectations are not going to be yours.
So if outsourcing having kids doesn't work, what's left? Raising the retirement age and/or dramatically slashing pensions. There's no other choice no matter how angry anybody gets about it.
