Inexpensive .22 rifles with Threaded Barrels – Surprisingly Good Values

If you have ever thought you might want, need or find useful a suppressed firearm, there is good news. .22 rifles with threaded barrels are available for very little money.

There are several reasons why you might consider buying inexpensive .22 rifles with threaded barrels:

Many years ago, traveling in a land far, far away, a close friend and “poacher” (hunting was forbidden altogether in that location) obtained a .22 single-shot rifle. Someone smuggled the rifle into the country, and ended up in a friend’s hands. He showed me how he made an improvised suppressor in about 30 minutes, which worked surprisingly well.

The tricky part was lining up the hole in the suppressor with the rifle’s bore. This was done by eye, centering the hole while looking through the suppressor, down the bore, and tightening the hose clamp which held the suppressor to the barrel.  It worked well but had to be checked frequently.

The most challenging part of making a practical, improvised suppressor is making sure the bore and suppressor are aligned.

but a reverse paradox tube doubles or triples the effective range of these minuscule shotshells. Bloop tubes can extend the sight radius.

Apparently, the author didn't feel the need to clue us in on "reverse paradox" or "bloop" tubes.

Have you cleane3d it well? People are notorious about not cleaning the action of a 22. I am guilty myself. Also are you using genuine Ruger magazines?

Yep, CCI makes subsonic ammo fo the .22 LR. One round is barley subsonic and the other is called Quiet .22 at about 670 fps.

I HAD a Winchester Model 61 pump 22 from the 1950s I inherited from my dad.

Unfortunately, it was lost in a tragic boating accident.

A suppressor will not slow a bullet down. Nor will it stop the pop you hear when the bullet break the sound barrier. There’s a solution, subsonic ammo. Any ammo that has less than 1200 fps at sea level is considered subsonic. Use that load with a suppressor your .22 is pretty quiet, staple gun quiet. Here’s a fun little .22 that didn’t make the list. Tippman Arms M4-22 Micro-Elite/CGS HYDRA-LA suppressor. Fun,fun fun. That gun and my unsuppressed Henry .22LR Octagon barrel lever action rifle are the 2 most popular guns with the kids, grandkids and great-grandkids when they come over and want to shoot. We have a set of Ruger 10-22 Takedowns, both with threaded barrels. They’re handy little trunk guns.

“I still have my Glenfield Marlin Model 20 that I bought back in 1976 at the Sears in Colorado Springs.”

Same with my Winchester single shot 22 LR. I had just turned 10 in 1975 and got my military ID at Eielson AFB in Alaska. I saved up my allowance, and my first ever purchase at the Base Exchange was that rifle. It’s in my safe now, I just had it at the range last week and it’s still an accurate beauty 48 years later.

Yes. When I was a teen I would shoot shorts in a .22 semi-auto for late season squirrel hunting. It was as quite as a pellet gun and no “krack”. I could often get 2 or 3 shots before the squirrel caught on. I had to load them 1 at a time and manually eject the casing.

“ I still have my Glenfield Marlin Model 20”
I’ve got one that was a garage sale find. Ugly and loose in the stock. Fixed her up and they think shoots 18 times slicks as can be. I’ve had people say “but that’s only a .22!”
I ask them how many times would they like to be shot with it?
Fun truck, barn, tractor gun for whatever needs taken care of. I’d buy another one when I run across one!😉

Tragic loss, same thing happened to me with my dad’s bolt action .22 he used in a private H.S. I think all the boys had one back then.

I purchased a USA made replacement barrel for my Ruger 10-22 with a threaded muzzle and faster twist barrel to accurately fire 60-grain subsonic Aguila SSS ammo. Works great.

Side note: I worked at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs for many years. The housekeeping and general staff there said the shooters were the most mannerly competitors they had.

My girlfriend has a winchester pump .22 that was given to her father by his father.
The father passed at the age of 91.
We took it to a gun smith to be cleaned and the gunsmith’s eyes lit up like a Christmas tree at the sight ofbit

We have a couple of high powered air rifles with lots of critter rounds. Wanted to replace tht crossbow that as stolen. I would have to get a girlie one now because I have lost arm strength. Thinking about the CO2 loading ones too.
