Paul Ehrlich Is Always Wrong
Jim Treacher Substack ^ | 3 Jan 2023 | Jim Treacher

0% of the time, he's right every time

When a 90-year-old man says there are too many people on the planet, you’re allowed to ask why he’s still sticking around.

60 Minutes
@60Minutes
“The next few decades will be the end of the kind of civilization we’re used to.” Humanity is consuming 175 percent of what the earth can regenerate. Biologist Paul Erlich says that our current way of life is unsustainable. cbsn.ws/3Gvv8mC

This is a lie, of course. It was a lie when Paul Ehrlich started spewing his apocalyptic crap all the way back in 1968, and it’s a lie now.

On CBS "60 Minutes" w/ @ScottPelley last night, @PaulREhrlich claimed a) humans are causing a "sixth mass extinction" & b) that it would require "five Earths" for all humans to enjoy a Western standard of living.

Both claims are totally & utterly false.

If we’re consuming 175% of what Earth can sustain, then we need 1.75 Earths, not five.

I guess its good he’s not a mathematician.

I’m always skeptical of “doom” porn.
We think we are more significant
than we really are.
There is a religion that defined what is
seven deadly sins.
I firmly believe Pride is the worst of them.
I always wondered why pride was listed last when it is the cause of all the others.

I think some people are just genetically predisposed to keep proclaiming, “The end is near! The end is near!”

I’ve long thought that he’s clinically depressed. On top of being hag-ridden with apophenia.

I’m floored that even MSM hacks like 60 Minutes would put this discredited crank on the air

I’m always skeptical of “doom” porn.

Especially when the biggest proponents of the doom porn so egregiously violate the conditions they insist on imposing on everyone else but themselves.

This is why we can’t allow the world to move here: population as gumballs - the original.

Gumballs: Immigrants by the numbers.

Erlich, crazy since the 70s and proud of it. That is why the environmental extremists worship him like a Rev. Jim Jones.

the youtube video shows a straight line progression which is an incorrect assumption

As Asia's economic growth continues, you will have fewer and fewer immigrants from there

Look at the 1800s -- lots of Norwegians, Swedes, Japanese, Irish migrated to the USA. Today the immigration numbers from those countries are practically zero

I see the same in Poland and Hungary - until about 2012 many young folks wanted to go to the UK or the US (far more in the 1990s wanted to go to the USA). But since then the numbers have decreased, rapidly.

The USA is not an attractive destination for people who live in EU countries nor for Japanese or south Koreans or Australians

This isn't to say the USA is bad for them, but just that the cost of moving, leaving family and the support net behind v/s opportunities is not worth it anymore for many (not all) in those countries

Here's validation for my statement

you see how the world growth rate peaked in 1961 (before that dunce Ehrlich wrote his book)?

Since then, the population is increasing because we are living longer

But if we look at other projections

we see the total population also reducing around the middle of this century

The median age in India is 27 years old and India has been growing - not super fast, but quite fast

Even their GDP per capita has been growing

Now India's GDP per capita is 1/20th that of the USAs but India is a cheaper country to live in and it has a lot of the support systems that many Indians want. If it keeps growing, then I forecast a drop off in India immigration out of India (to where-ever) around 2030 to 2040.

There are currently 7 agricultural revolutions that have arisen in the last 25 years or so—not counting the genetic revolution—that will make it possible for the earth to support human populations 10-100 times the size of current populations.

Paul Ehrlich and John Holdren’s Malthusian Textbook predictions from, “Ecoscience: Population, Resources, Environment”…

1968: “The battle to feed all of humanity is over. In the 1970s hundreds of millions of people will starve to death.”

1970: “In 10 years all important animal life in the sea will be extinct.”

1971: “I would take even money that England will not exist in the year 2000.”

I remember when 60 Minutes actually performed a service by exposing crooked auto mechanics, white collar crooks, etc.
Today 60 Minutes has NO credibility whatsoever.

Fossil fuels are feeding 6.8 billion people every day. Without their reliable, economical energy, all but 1/2 billion would starve. Die in the cold dark mud .

But even the recent increase in CO2 is feeding some 1.5 billion more each than in the 1940s, 50s, 60s! Every green plant on earth is growing 12% to 27% faster, taller, wider and more flowers, fodder, and food than ever before. The very slight increase in temperature- less than 1/2 of one degree C since 1975 - helps some, but it is the CO2 itself that increases productivity the most. More drought resistant too!
