Ginger candy can make all the difference in the world between a pleasurable or a horrible cruise ship experience. Why? Because it prevents seasickness without side effects. I know it is highly effective because I am extremely susceptible to seasickness. In fact, I once even got seasick aboard Cleopatra's Barge at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. However, since I took ginger candy during my last two cruises I did not once feel seasick even when the waves were high.
We are going on another cruise to the Eastern Caribbean on January 28 and I have already purchased 3 bags of ginger candy. The Celebrity Apex offers incredible dining experiences so it would be a shame to ruin it via getting so seasick that I can't even stand to look at food without feeling nauseous. I want to enjoy gobbling down the food washed down with my drink package so the ginger candy is absolutely essential for my cruise ship happiness.
PING!
Eat lots of garlic too.
Recently heard it counteracts cyanide.
PING
If I eat lots of garlic I could lose friends aboard ship.
Is a cruise ship really subject to wave action, to the point of sea-sickness?
Absolutely. When the waves kick up you definitely feel it. On my 2019 cruise the waves kicked up on our last full day at sea. I felt the characteristic ear popping which indicated oncoming sea sickness but it never reached the point of nausea because of the ginger candy. I even had a meal during that period to check and everything was fine.
On our last cruise I ran into a guy who was popping gin gins as well. However, he must have been even more susceptible to seasickness than me since he was popping them on our water taxi to Klein Bonaire, an uninhabited island near our ship that was strictly for sunbathing and swimming.
Even though the ship is really big, the ocean is infinitely larger. Same rules apply. Also for comfort the stability is kept comfortable, which is the same frequency as sea sickness
The food aboard ship is AWESOME. I just saw a video about the buffet and among the things offered is HONEY COMB HONEY which I haven’t had in years. I can’t afford to be too sick to eat the food thus the absolute need for the ginger candy which definitely works for me.
In heavy seas, I suppose. I’ve been on charter boats in rolling water. It just doesn’t bother me.
Ginger Candy..wasn’t that one of Hunter Brandon’s paid companions?
Disappointing thread. I thought Ginger Candy was a woman from an on-board escort service.
Agree, and it's more work to be hungry on a cruise than it is to be well fed. I was on a RC cruise several years ago, enjoying the pool, and felt the need for a snack. They had a hot dog stand with hot dogs, sausages, and kielbasa, and seven different types of rolls or buns, with all the fixings.
I’ve never been seasick, but I do take ginger capsules on cruises — just in case.
I did watch an episode of Myth Busters where ginger came out as the winner to stop motion sickness.

FUN FACT: The ONLY J6 “protestor” known to have been armed was Ginger Gun. Although his picture and real name have been revealed, the J6 Committee did NOT refer to him in their report. He must have the Ray Epps protective aura surrounding him.
Celebrity also has snack bars near their pools with the same food. In our upcoming Celebrity Apex cruise they have FOUR specialty restaurants for dinner included in our travel package. The Tuscan which is an Italian restaurant, Normandie which features French dining, Cypress which is Greek food and Mediterranean seafood, and Cosmopolitan which is upscale American food. We get our choice each evening where to dine.
When I was in the Navy, we had sailors aboard that at the first sway of tugboats pulling the ship away from the pier, they would start to lose it. It doesn't necessarily heavy sea states to trigger it.
I never had a problem with sea sickness; I treated it like an amusement park ride--you just had to go with the motion, not fight it.
Cute readheads make a cruise more enjoyable?
Who knew?
