Barbara Walters, the trailblazing television news broadcaster and longtime ABC News anchor and correspondent who shattered the glass ceiling and became a dominant force in an industry once dominated by men, has died. She was 93.
Walters joined ABC News in 1976, becoming the first female anchor on an evening news program. Three years later, she became a co-host of "20/20," and in 1997, she launched "The View." In a career that spanned five decades, Walters won 12 Emmy awards, 11 of those while at ABC News.
She made her final appearance as a co-host of "The View" in 2014, but remained an executive producer of the show and continued to do some interviews and specials for ABC News.
"I do not want to appear on another program or climb another mountain," she said at the time. "I want instead to sit on a sunny field and admire the very gifted women -- and OK, some men too -- who will be taking my place."

Indeed I will spread your words of wisdom and she did.
If she had been a journalist what kind would she have been.
“Walters won 12 Emmy awards, 11 of those while at ABC News.“
Geez, I’m so tired of this “first female to do this or that” crap. Okay, okay, I believe you: females can do almost everything men can do. I got it. When can we stop this?!? I remember being a youngster even then thinking it had to be some sort of a pity party to award someone that looked and sounded like Walters with a TV broadcast award. C’mon! They had to be kidding us, right?! Aside from the ones she didn’t sleep with, imagine the world leaders who were forced to sit across from this American women and answer questions without laughing! They must have thought there were on Borat or Ali G.
Just the other day Wikipedia had a “featured story” in their “Do you know ...” section. It was about a person I had never heard of, who attended a college I had never heard of. Her claim to fame seemed to be that she was the first black woman to attend the rinky dink college that no one had ever heard of.
Seemed pretty pitiful.
Ping for later viewing.
Happy New Year, rl!
After things change, many simply cannot imagine what it was like before. Trust me, there was a glass ceiling. And yes, she did break through. That doesn't mean we have to like her, but facts are facts.
And same to you, AW!
I am not a fan of Barbara Walters, not because she was a woman, but because she was an abject, biased, Leftist.
But I give Gilda Radner props for poking fun at a Leftist...my wife told me last night the Barbara Walters hated the “Babwah Wah-Wah” meme. I can understand that, they can handle lying, deception, cheating, hatred of them, all of it, but...they can’t stand being made fun of.
But she’s gone now, so may she RIP.
I forget sometimes just how funny Gilda Radner was. Very talented.
