For me, I went real ole school and use cravats, something Mr. Darcy would wear, as my neck ware. I dressed up in my Victorian outfit to watch USA v. England at a English style pub. I wore the outfit, including a vintage top hat, to Costco afterwards. The amount of respect I received was noticeable.

Supposedly powered wigs was a fashion response to hide the ravages of syphilis.

MERKIN
The Oxford English Dictionary dates the first written use of the term to 1617. The word probably originated from malkin, a derogatory term for a lower-class young woman, or from Marykin, a pet form of the female given name Mary...............

I still believe that in business you can’t be too far off the mark if you over-dress just a touch. You will be seen as the person with means, competence, ability and guts.
When I used to close big contracts I would say to my compatriots who would glance questioningly at a flashy tie and suit, “you don’t expect Dirty Harry to go without his 44 Magnum?”

“Supposedly powered wigs was a fashion response to hide the ravages of syphilis.”
I had always heard the powdered wig was due to lice. People who could afford a wig would shave their heads to avoid lice. Now the mirkin, on the other hand…

I bet there is some truth to all the reasons listed. Some research says Louis XIV of France and Charles II of England wore wigs due to premature balding caused by syphilis.

I fear that, in both our world and our country, classical liberalism is in decline. Why?
ask the statists, fascists, Marxists, commies, socialists, and muhammedums

I wear a jacket of some type to work every day (though not a tie). I mainly do it to have pockets for my accoutrements, but since I started nearly 15 years ago I’ve definitely noticed that I’m approached differently then others in my age group.
I suppose the old adage “the clothes makes the man” is somewhat true
