Brittney Griner will face horrific conditions during her time in a Russian prison ... with environments that will include homophobia, racism and 16-hour work days.
According to The Nation's Dave Zirin, prisoners in Mordovia -- where Griner was taken to earlier this month -- are barely treated like humans.
Bigotry is commonplace, medical care is nearly nonexistent ... and, Zirin says, inmates are expected to sew the uniforms for police and guards.

Sucks to be her.
She knew the laws when she went into the country.
It’s probably the first time in her life that she actually faced consequences for her decisions.
Live and learn.
I guess she can see now how awful the US is. Now she doesn’t have to live here any more.
I think she will always hate this country that she claims “enslaved” her and oppressed her somehow despite actually being enslaved by Russia. She’ll hate Russia more but she’ll never appreciate America. The left has conditioned her that way.
Lets see....
Some folks in the US want Griner freed from the Russian Gulag. Don’t worry, the best man for the job, Blinken, is on it.
At the same time, Biden-DOD-DOS is contemplating giving the Ukrainian military a system that can launch rockets, accurately, 100 miles. To be used against Russian troops.
So, yeah, Putin will be more than happy to release a skank that broke their laws, while also learning about Russian soldiers being killed with US weaponry.
On top of all the other aid that the US has given and continues to give. If anyone thinks that Ukrainians are the only ones flying drones over there, I have a bridge to sell you. Oh wait....they have a 14yr old doing it. He took over right after the Ghost of Kiev decided to hang up his wings and the guys from Snake Island got out on medical discharges and got on disability.
Ironically, if Trump, whom she so hated, were president, she would have been “home” (the home she also said she hated) months ago.
I would trade her for Vindman. Although I don’t think there are any Krispy Kremes in Siberia, so he would certainly suffer greatly.
I wonder what the Russian prison warden would charge us to play the American national anthem over the prison PA system about once a day for the length of her stay.
Ummmm. I think you and all the other posters got it wrong: per the article I think were supposed to feel sorry for her. Not there yet myself, but I’m working on it
I’ll pray for her.
I expect that if Ivan sees he/she/it as trading stock he won’t treat the thing too roughly. At least not as bad as advertised. I’m remembering Nathan Sheransky. All they did to him mostly was isolation. He didn’t describe hard work. But he wasn’t smuggling dope either? And he finally wore them down with self discipline so they sent him out early.
It does sound as if she is experiencing a life that even the most hardened criminal in a U.S. prison will never face. Russia is not known for treating prisoners with any type of leniency. However, she basically believed her own favorable press to the point that she could enter another country, thumb her nose at their laws, and do as she wished. All without repercussion. Once caught she assumed she would be quickly removed from the country by attorneys and activists performing on behalf of Democrat politicians. She never thought she would actually go to trial and be convicted and sentenced to prison in Russia.
It’s a hard lesson to learn. Especially when you have been indoctrinated to believe that the U.S. is the only oppressive country in the world and the absolutely worst place in which to live.
16 hour work days...welcome to my world!
I prayed for her. That was a strange feeling, I think they were listening.
And the “wife” might straighten up too-—maybe even give the whole team a head jerk. And how is it we haven’t heard from the WNBA geniuses?
...and, Zirin says, inmates are expected to sew the uniforms for police and guards.

Sewing! The horror.
But we know how that went.
Sounds like a normal work environment .
Does she get matching 401k benefits?
The article says they are actively negotiating to get him out of prison.
I bet she’ll love America when she gets back.
