Kudos to Publix! For the second time during this inflation era, Publix has kept their turkey prices for Thanksgiving down to the pre-inflation level of just 49 cents per pound. I bought two of them right after I recorded this. One will be smoked and the other cooked via sous vide. Therefore we will have TWO turkeys for Thanksgiving.
The money I saved by buying these turkeys will be invested in alcoholic drinks for the holiday.

I also plan on buying three more of these turkeys for future use. Gotta get cheap protein while it is available in these inflationary times.

Yep, my wife got a small ‘just in case’ turkey from Publix. It’s ll lbs, and cost $5. Just in case one of the usual large family gatherings doesn’t take place during the Holidays. This is one of the very few food items that we’ve gotten a real deal in a long, long time.

What do you Sous vide a turkey in, the bath tub?

Our local grocery has them for .55 a pound. I bought 2 last year, thawed and stripped them, ground up twice with some bacon strips and spices for the best breakfast sausage ever.

What do you Sous vide a turkey in, the bath tub? In a small plastic container. Cooking sous vide turkey can be tricky. Main thing is to sear the turkey both BEFORE and after you sous vide. Also the turkey legs must be cooked for two days, not one as many suggest. I did all this successfully a few months ago as a trial run for Thanksgiving.

Thanks for the reply. So it’s done in parts? Legs separate and for longer?
We have a 1-gallon tank and the way meats come out is incredible.

Turkey was priced at $0.28/lb in 1915
My grandparents bought 120 turkeys.
We inherited the remainder last year…
Only 13 more turkeys to eat!
