The Big Midterm Lesson: Defensive ‘Victories’ On The Right Aren’t Going To Save The Country
Federalist ^ | 11/10/2022 | John Daniel Davidson

If there’s a clear lesson to come out of Tuesday night’s bizarre midterm election, it’s that Republicans can no longer be content with defensive victories or defensive politics. To win political power and do what must be done to save the country, Republicans will have to go on offense, present a compelling vision for the future, and engage culture war issues like abortion and critical race theory without apologies.

When they do that, they win. But it stands in stark contrast to the perennial advice of Beltway GOP consultants, who think it best to avoid major culture war issues like abortion. Indeed, the “official narrative” of corporate media in the wake of Tuesday’s midterms is that abortion was a big winner for Democrats, who supposedly capitalized on the U.S. Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade, successfully making abortion a major electoral issue and blunting a red wave by boosting turnout among young, pro-abortion voters.

Why there was no red wave?

I’m afraid that the Republicans, having taken control of the House and quite possibly the Senate, will be getting the blame (via the MSM) for downward spiral of the country . . .

Democrats were able to pretend that Republicans were doing just that and that strategy worked for the Democrats.

Is it possible that actually campaigning on those issues would mean victories for Republicans in the states where they lost? Where is the logic in that?

It's not Eisenhower's or Nixon's or Reagan's America anymore.

Democrats are emotional and only learn through pain.

Pain has not hit them yet.

True, I was kind of worried about that. I don’t know if the GOP is capable of avoiding that.

Gee, ya think?

AND, achieving real accomplishments that their base wants that they can tout. "Trying" and "stern letters" just doesn't cut it.

Because not enough Republicans bothered to vote.

Only 46.9% turnout.

You have to show up if you want to win.

It’s worse than that.

Leftist true believers are so far gone that any pain that results from Democrat policies will be blamed on evil Republicans.

To them, cognitive dissonance isn’t a flaw, it’s a feature.

“I’m afraid that the Republicans, having taken control of the House and quite possibly the Senate, will be getting the blame (via the MSM) for downward spiral of the country . . .”

I’m more afraid that if they win both houses of Congress they’ll (once again) come out of the gate announcing their willingness to “work with our good friends across the aisle.”

The same “good friends” that would publicly execute them, given the opportunity.

Obviously issues must not matter in winning anymore. Democrats quit campaigning on issues. Why bother?

Ballot stuffing and harvesting has made a joke out of good people who campaign on issues in America.

I recall they came out with something similar to the “Contract with America”, but it didn’t get talked about too much, from what I heard.

Maybe this is a lesson to learn from this, and apply this lesson next time, esp. since next time, in 2024, is a presidential year, not just a mid term election year???

And that would be different if the Republicans lost big how?

Democrats always blame Republicans, Obamalamadingdong & Bidumb blame Republicans even though they had Trifectas.

Morals, Shame, Logic, Honor Reason and Accountability are foreign concepts to Liberals, so they will always blame others.

Of course they will, and you can bet the recession worsens in 2023 when the GOP owns Congress. The issue is media disinformation. We don't control the media and all the "disinformation" that the Dems pretend is coming from the right, is actually business as usual from the partisan corrupt media. Like Tucker said last night, something needs to be done about that.

“pain that results from Democrat policies will be blamed on evil Republicans.”

10 years from now they will still be blaming President Trump as you watch your one and only official gov’t channel.

The Big Midterm Lesson:

Defensive ‘Victories’ On The Right Aren’t Going To Save The Country

Err no, the big lesson should be "Voting isn't going to save the country"

I will wait to believe this until I hear it from something other than the WAPO.

Democrats don’t need to vote anymore. Other people fill out the ballots for them. Did WAPO report that?

1. I never got a sense that the GOP ever had a coherent message in this election cycle. "Joe Biden Bad" is never going to work for a political party that doesn't try to appeal to misfits and losers.

2. All of the Senate/House campaign material I received from the GOP included promises to pass X, Y and Z legislation. That meant nothing to me because I knew the GOP was already in a position to do that sh!t in 2017-18, but never did.

So you have a political party that is destined for oblivion -- because liberals hate them and conservatives don't trust them.

Because it was massive gaslighting to make you disappointed and demoralized as the democrats stole key races under your nose.
