I was browsing the November 2023 Costco savings booklet. I noticed a Bose SE 45 Quiet Comfort headphones on sale on Black Friday Weekend for $219. This seems like a decent discount from the prices I have seen at Amazon and similar sites. I have never owned a high-quality pair of headphones. I am not an audiophile. This would be what I am looking for:
1: Comfort: I would wear these multiple hours during the day at my desk. 2: Sturdiness: The reason I have not invested in good headphones is I tend to abuse them, or they were poorly constructed in the first place. I will wear them doing chores inside and outside the house. The main issues have been damaging the audio input or the frame. Now with Bluetooth there has been mitigation to that risk. 3: Listening: The predominant thing I listen to are podcasts, audiobooks, and other spoken work content. The only music I listen to is Classical and 50s - 80s Rock and Pop music.
I do not even know how important noise reduction is as I work in quite spaces, and I am not wearing them out in public.
Alternatives I have seen:
1: SENNHEISER HD 569 and Sennheiser HD 400S: At least half the price of the Bose giving up noise reduction and only having a wired input. 2: Shure AONIC 50 Wireless: Appears to be highly regarded although slightly more expensive than the Bose 45. 3: Soundcore by Anker Life Q35: Selling under $100 at Amazon from around $130. Appears to be popular based on the reviews on Amazon
Any feedback and recommendations apprciated.
I have Bose and I’m a fan
The three year old Sony 1000xm3 should be in that price range and fantastic. Great noise cancellation and frequency response. I prefer the Sony over the Bose.
Do you have any use for Active Noise Cancelling or a microphone?
You can get better headphone without those added in.
I got Beats for 99 on Groupon. We’re fine until my kid destroyed them.
Bose makes good speakers. Sure those would be nice.
I’ve had Sony wireless to watch tv in peace. Were adequate.
Games. Music. TV. Travel. Favor in your use.
Skullcandy over the ear EVO they are fantastic and reasonably priced
The Soundcore ones are really good for the price. Battery life is excellent and the sound quality more than good enough. There’s an app where you can adjust various levels but I don’t bother (plus I’m not keen on yet more Chinese software getting loaded onto my phone).
I do not care about the microphone. I have a pair of headphones with microphone provided by work for calls.
The ANC I am not sure about. I work in quiet environments. I see photos from the manufacturer of young people walking around in public wearing the headphones. That does not apply to me. The only time it might matter is when I am using landscaping equipment.
I don’t know the price but I like my Apple AirPods Max. Best noise canceling I’ve ever experienced.
It’s probably about $290
Costco has an item in the catalog about a sale on Apple AirPods but no price info. I have been checking out that part of the warehouse to look for the price reduction.
Thank you for that one. They are a popular item on Amazon.I am going to do more research.
Another vote for the Soundcore from Amazon. The noise cancelling is excellent, they are comfortable, and the sounds quality is pretty good.
The price is right on those and you can buy 2 1/2 pairs for the price of the Bose.
I got a pretty good set of headphones at the Five Below store. They were not Five Below. They were $7. ☹️
I have some Sennheiser 202, anf the earpiece cushion has lasted far longer than many. The tropical climate really destroys that stuff fast.
Trust me here Sony DJ/Studio MDR-7506. $100

Bought a Bose over a year ago when they went on sale
during prime day.
I was surprised at how much they filter out the noise,
I couldn’t really hear what my husband was saying when
I tested it...Bought a second one this year when they
went on sale again..Bought them more for travelling...Not sure which one we got, but the first one cost us about $220 on sale last year.
I have bought those $5 Five Below ones. The most they last was 4 weeks. The failure point was the audio connection to the headphone breaking. Those there was no jack so when the wire went nothing to do but throw the in the garbage.
That is what I call Old School!!!
