The headline reads, “Let’s Declare a Pandemic Amnesty.” It would be risible if it were not so galling.

We are to give a pardon to the officials who, over and over, proved themselves blustering little tyrants, and worse, incompetent? Absolutely not. We are to erase the record of those responsible for leaving sick children to waste away in hospitals all alone, for separating husband from wife, for stopping families from holding the hands of the dying or gathering for their funerals? No, no, and again, no. After mandates forced people out of jobs, and the vaccine-turned-therapeutic failed to stop transmission, are we really to stop asking about its potential side effects, or the relationship between pharmaceutical companies and the FDA? Are we really to let bygones be bygones for masking and lockdowns that will set students back for a decade, that shuttered businesses across the country, that multiplied deaths of despair?

Maybe I am putting on Rose Colored Glasses, but if the elite we have today performed as poorly as in the past, they would have been thrown out of power from either above or below. One big difference from the past is the elite were much more heterogeneous. One would have competition across families,regions, religious, etc. Now the Ivy Leagues and like are producing an monolothic elite who think,dress and ear alike. I was willing to give Fauci and like some leeway at the beginning. Then we have learned several things: 1: The CDC did have a plan for a pandemic along the lines of what Sweden did. That plan was immediately trashed when they saw what ChiComs was able to pull off. 2: Fauci and his ilk immediately went into CYA mode about where this virus came from. 3: The legitimacy of the entire public health system was destroyed during the Summer of Floyd. These so called experts acted as if the virus would understand when not to transmit.

I agree with Meadowcroft's (and Don Surber's blog post) conclusion that a reckoning -- not Oster's "amnesty" -- is what is called for; a reckoning directed at all those mini-tyrant politicians, all those "medical experts" and especially all those unelected bureaucrats who, with delusions of grandeur and a lust for celebrity foremost in their ego-controlled minds, callously and deliberately caused physical and psychological harm to a third of a billion American citizens over the past nearly three years.

Woeful ignorance, "good intentions" and irrational fear are not acceptable excuses for their despicable behavior and the widespread damage they deliberately caused.

I’m sorry you experienced that. I heard about people having to do that or being required to show proof of vaccination to attend family members’ (family members!) Thanksgiving gatherings. That’s horrible.
