PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler released details on a new plan that would ban unsanctioned camping that is intended to get people experiencing homelessness more access to services.

The plan, made up of five resolutions, will go before the city council next Wednesday.

Part of the plan would implement a citywide ban on unsanctioned camping, while also opening up designated areas for camps that would have better access to services, food, and hygiene and be managed 24-7. The plan also looks to invest in services, increase affordable housing, and work with county, Metro, state, and federal partners to support the action.

Mayor Wheeler said they've tried several methods over the years that have not worked, and that it is time to take bold action to move people closer to the services they need.

Wheeler wants to put the homeless in camps. He wants to do it gently though. Good luck.

LOL

This means the homeless will be...well....homeless. What then? Back to the high priced hotels with room service?

Every homeless family will be given a disgruntled and unemployable Millennial to live with them.

“ Every homeless family will be given a disgruntled and unemployable Millennial to live with them.”

Where would they find such a creature? Why, there couldn’t possibly be more than all of them

Democrats suddenly wanting to stop vagrants from shooting up and defecating on the sidewalks is a clear sign that an election is coming and the democrats are losing. Too little, too late.

implement a citywide ban on unsanctioned camping

LOL, I almost can't stop laughing...... what part of homeless does the mayor not understand? People with major issues who do not give a damn, what more can they lose? ID? ha, ha, ha, they have no ID. Fines? ha, ha, ha, they have no money! Which part of homeless escapes the Mayor? Oh, Portland can take them into custody for unsanctioned camping and then spend millions housing them..... That's the bottom line, more taxes to deal with our homeless problem and of course the bonus votes for.... Da Mayor....

It ain’t happening two weeks before an Oregon governor’s election the Democrats might lose by accident.

--- "unsanctioned homeless camping across Portland."

This becomes a farcical thing of great beauty. Now the class war specialists are dividing the class currently known as homeless into sanctioned campers and unsanctioned campers. One supposes licenses for camping will be sold and validated by the inspectors looking for those unsanctioned homeless.

With the Democrat Party, farce is the operative word. So, Mr. camp site inspector comes across a homeless/camper drug addict, with mental issues. The fine fellow seems to have lost his permit. Cite him? Arrest him? And then what? Problem not solved, problem continues unabated. But hey, as another poster observed, it looks like something is being done!

I think this is a wonderful idea. As soon as its implemented Portland will return to the paradise it was when Antifa ruled the city.

Really, that’s the thing to do. Change the law so that vagrancy is a much bigger crime. Put people in some kind of camp for at least 6 months so that their case can be looked at & a way found to help. If only a money issue, help them get back to relatives. Drugs - get them off the substance. Mental illness - find whatever other option there is. These cases need one on one attention to resolve them. We shouldn’t just be leaving them on the street as a problem for the local citizens.

Rules, rules, rules. That’s what will drive the vagrants out. They live like they do because they don’t want to work or be told what to do or how to live. Enforce some rules and most of them will leave.
