80% death rate was because these are mice bred to have poor immune systems to better understand the spread of diseases.

I updated the title since technically not gain of function but using “hybrid” strain with 80% mortality rate. NOT a good idea to be working on any COVID strain with that high mortality rate in the middle of a city.
Sure, but it’s not 80% in humans. It is 80% in immunocompromised mice.
These are just normal strains with 99%+ survival rates in humans.
They extracted the spike protein from Omicron and attached it with the strain first detected at the onset of the pandemic that began in Wuhan, China. They then documented how the mice reacted to the hybrid strain.

If it truly would have an 80% mortality rate in humans, not mice, wouldn’t it not spread far?
This type of research should be banned as it could cause another world wide pandemic if it accidentally leaked or serve as a platform for bioterrorism or biological weapons if it fell into the wrong hands. There is no purpose in doing this research.
What is additionally troubling about this is that this is the same institution of allegedly “higher learning” that granted AOC her degree.
